Massive Sub?
what do you guys think of the Kicker Solo X 10" Sub woofer? i have 2 12's now and am planning on going with a single 10" with a different enclosure. any thoughts to this sub in a z?

going from 2x12"s to 1x10 is going to kill you.
I currently have 2x10"s in the back. I would have honestly love to have gone 2x12's or even 1 but fitting it in the Z means no access to the spare unless you face the sub towards the seats...lord knows having the subs 10 inches from your ear is great for your hearing. As for the sound, if your looking for mild bass it wont sound bad at all my 2 cents. |
thats the thing man, my 2 12's knock way hard, but my friend with just one solo x and same amp as me knocks way more for some reason?

1 10" solo speaker takes about 1000 watts. Inside the Z's hatch, it sounds pretty sweet.

redbull ure my favorite energy drink..haha
as for the sub my friend has 2500 rms to the sub and dude this knows way more than my 2 12's with the same amp. |
KICKER S10X D2 i was checking this one out and this is what he has so is that the difference right their?

my 10'' w6v2 hits plenty for me it can give me a headake at times. I turn it way down i dont try to rattle things or annoy the neighbors though. I like SQ over spl.

I had a 12" soloX in a sealed box in my 240SX. The thing hammered and sounded spectacular! Why? I powered it off of two ZX1250.1's which was over 2500 watts of power to that thing. The sub needs ridiculous amounts of power...especially in a sealed box. Ported will need about 1500 watts minimum for the 10". If you don't have that kind of power DO NOT BOTHER! Its pointless to even run 1000 watts to it. Thats the first part. The second part is the enclosure. You MUST have the enclosure made for the sub! No pre-fabs please unless it is made by Kicker and meant for the X. The baffle needs to be at least 1" thick. AT LEAST. The box must be braced internally and when using fibreglass, you need at least 10 layers. Anything less, is just a waste of time! the third part is placement. The sub should be facing to the rear of the car under the strut OR facing upwards at the very back of the trunk area. This is just as important at the enclosure design itself. I was suprised and impressed with my SoloX 12". It was super clean and crisp and never distorted at higher volumes. It would easily play into the 140's (DB's) and would play down to 35 hz no problem. 1.5-2.0 cubes for the 12" sealed and 1.2-1.5 cubes for the 10" sealed for sound quality. Ported? That'll blow your mind! EDIT: Check my sound deadening thread in audio builds for correct application of Hushmat (dynamat) |
