Simple question i can't find an answer for (Bose sub hole)
 

Hey all,
H searched and searched, but couldn't find an answer to a simple question.

I have a 2004 with the Bose, and I was looking to throw in a replacement sub for the Bose Sub. Nothing monster, nothing that will need another amp, just something a little cleaner sounding. HU is next, though.

Anyhoo, if I pick up a decent 10" sub, do i need an adapter plate to mount it in the existing hole? My jeep speakers were like that, the hole was strange and putting in standard speakers required a plate to get it to fit.

From what I heard that Bose sub is made for no box at all.. You would have to put a box inside that hole to make any sub sound decent. Your better off spending $100 on the zenclosure under the strut if you want any bass.

BOSE stuff is proprietary so unless you're planning to buy another BLOSE sub, you'll have some issues with getting the amp to connect to it.

Ahh, thanks fellas. yeah, i guess I'll just start with the HU and work my way back. man, those screen Double DIN ones suuuurrreee look sharp in a Z :)

Before I tore the whole thing out, I upgraded the headunit to a Pioneer and it actually made a big difference. Do that before touching anything else.

The factory mounting holes will line up fine with an aftermarket 10" sub. Problem is, it'll sound horrible (even free-air). I'm talking first hand here, so don't make the mistake I made by buying one. Save your money and buy a real sub with a real amplifier or install an Infinity Basslink in the space where the factory subwoofer goes. Also, you're not going to find any sub that'll work off the factory amp; the thing is comically small and underpowered.
