Advice on sound system.
I got an average setup that I need help on... But on the electrical side.
Well I got this... 2 Jl audio 10w3v3-2ohms subs( already installed in car with box and wires.) Alpine pdx 1.1000 (not installed yet) Jl Audio 300/4(not installed yet) for the aftermarket components already installed in car. Now the question is since Im running more than 1000 rms watts on the electrical system of the Z, what do I really need to upgrade from the electrical system. My girl works at auto zone and can get me a yellow top battery for $100 (buy it and replace it with the stock battery?) And my boy is selling me a kinetik 600HC battery for cheap ($50) Now the kinetik would be as an extra battery in the trunk but really not sure whats the best solution? Any of your advice would be gladly appreciated. Thank you |
I am MECP certified and have 20 years experience.
adding batteries only increases the load on the electrical system, batteries need charging and are only used when the cars off and to buffer the electrical current while the alternator is running. You need to minimize voltage drop by using ridiculously large wire overkill, make sure ALL grounds are sandded to bare metal, and painted over after your ground is made to protect from corrosion. This makes a giant difference. Also be prepared to tune your bass to a flat response curve, ie, if you add boost at any frequency, youre asking your amp to add exponential power at those areas.. keep it simple. Dont use the bass boost on the amp. Also, if you can, use the subsonic filter included on your amp, it cuts the super low frequencies you arent really gna use, as those frequencies are major power robbers. The Optima bettery is a good idea purely becuase it is an easy battery for your car to charge and discharge. I run the same amps basically a 1.1000 and a 4.150. I use 2 gauge wire, short good grounds..and also run a 10 farad Stinger capacitor bank. You only have 100 amps out of that alternator to work with and that includes running your car and lights etc.... all the caps do is buy you time between beats in your music to let the alternator chill. Otherwise it will stay running al the time, and youll blow the diodes eventually. OP.. good job understanding that the voltage issues in your 350z are the biggest issue w putting a system in it.. most ppl look right over this. |
Thanks for the info. So basically sand wires and add a 10 Farad stinger cap? And im ok?
|
you dont sand the wires, just sand the metal that your ground boot goes thru.. remove the bolt, sand it down to metal... bolt your ground back and hit it once w a shot of spray paint.. done.
Heres the cap i use. http://cgi.ebay.com/Stinger-SPC5010-...item483b66c2c3 its pretty good. use short ground wires, and make sure your battery posts have anti corrosion paste on them. Get in there w a wire cleaner brush and make sure they are dope... all these things make a serious difference. And again, dont go crazy on the bass level.. no matter what, you dont have the alternator to pound w out that cap discharging, and it needs a few miliseconds to recharge ea time.. so rock is gna be better on your charging system than hip hop will be w sustained long bass tones. |
Ohh damn bro the price of the stinger cap is pricey. Since Im tight on my budget, should I just buy this cap and wait on the yellowtop for later? Your advice really helps thanks.
|
That's a good idea. No real benefit from.optima.
|
Hey bro you didnt do the big 3 on your Z?
|
big 3?
DUNNO.. big 325 tires? Big veilside version 3 wide? Big three, sh#t shower n shave? haha.. |
The electrical system upgrade? Its called the big three upgrade
|
funny, never heard it called that, googled it and there it is.
I never did my alternator wire.. funny, for such a smart guy, i never did that. I should replace it when i have them put the engine block back in. |
