Bose stereo fried, which aftermarket fits?
So my shitty Bose decided to get stuck with 6 CDs in, I'm thinking of changing the head unit but keeping the rest of the Bose components (speakers etc).
I knowww it would be much better by switching out the speakers and amp but I don't have time for it now so I'll just change the head unit instead.
Which are some aftermarket units that won't break the bank and can be swapped with the original Bose (6 cd loader) without having to rewire? Not looking for anything fancy, would be great if the new unit would allow me to connect my ipod / iphone via wire or blutooth.
Thanks

Thanks! I see the Pioneer FH-X720BT goes for about 100 bucks and looks pretty good / stock.
Seems like the ROEM-NIS2 pac would work but I can't figure out if this would be a plug and play solution or would I need to splice wires? Trying to avoid the latter.

Your headunit will come with a connector that plugs into the back with open ended color coded wires. The correct pac connector connects into the wire connector from your car and the other end has color coded wires as well. Using the instructions you match the colors to those of the one from the headunit. Just watch any youtube video on how to install headunit. It will give you a general idea

^this, 100% this. I love Crutchfield. I buy all my audio gear from them, never had any issues.

I wonder how it would sound with the Bose speakers? I wouldn't mind a temp fix to my OEM problem

So I ended up getting a Pioneer at Crutchfield. They also included a Metra 7551 and a level converter SLC4 which was nice!
I hardwired the loose ends of the metra adapter to the ones of the Pioneer connector matching colors.
I connected the remaining wires from the Pioneer connector to the inputs of the SLC-4.
I hardwired the blacks and black / white to an eyehook and secured it to the chassis.
Then hardwire these 3 wires: Power antenna (blue white) and Amp power (blue) to the supply line of the HU connector, this way the radio signal will come in fine.
Select LINE OUT on the SLC-4 and tweak the Line Out Gain trimmers accordingly to HU volume.
Overall I'm very pleased with the result. Despite still using the bose amp and speakers the sound is quite crisp and there's plenty headroom and volume.

I've installed multiple radios in Z's / STI and the hardest part is doing the wiring, mainly since I am colorblind and either had my girlfriend or mom double check everything. They're very easy to install if you splurge and spend the extra $7 for the adapters crutchfield offers. Which is where I'd recommend going to and searching to see what fits your car. I've always gone with Kenwood products. But that's because my first one was Kenwood and I liked it enough to keep buying them.

It was only 120$ incl. shipping and they threw in Metra cable, SLC-4 level converter and the double din frame to fit in the cubby perfectly.
