OEM style 370z Rear view mirror backup camera | review | Install

Hey Forum,

After backing the nismo up into a shopping cart, I decided to explore my options of backup cameras, while retaining the factory radio. When I was hunting for a 370z nismo, I know there was an option for a rear view mirror backup camera. Prices just for the mirror assembly was about $600.00. An additional $20-30 dollars for an actual camera. Way too expensive... better off getting a new head unit at this point.

Most of the options I saw you had to add another screen or hang something over the existing rear view mirror. Very Tacky. I then was checking out Amazon and found an inexpensive OEM style rear view mirror with an LCD screen. There is only a very slight difference between them (minus the fact that the on-star service buttons are removed)

Here is the manufacturer's page for the mirror:

you can search for it on amazon, was 107.99 free next day shipping. Really came the next day.

So far, I just bench tested it and seems to be great. Includes the guide lines. I'll have install pics and comparison to the factory unit later today.

Interesting idea, with the top up everything behind me is in a blind spot.

In for install pictures and review.

I do a decent amount of travel for work and most rental cars have backup cameras these days. Its one feature I really miss once I get back to my Z especially given its generally poor rear/side visibility.

Not to burn on your idea, but why are you attached to the stock radio? If you're spending $110 on that, you could spend a little over twice as much at $250 and get a double din with tons of candy-features and backup-camera enabled. The one I have installed has the capability, just need to install the camera and wire it up which is a few bucks in relation.

+1. Much rather have the b/u cam view in the headunit, and the OEM is junk, anyway.

I did upgrade my mirror, though, to a Gentex self-dimming, with an amber compass display:

Nice, Hi-res b/u view on the Kenwood:

If you haven't bought a cam, yet, get one of these hidden in one of the b/u lights:
