Door Speaker Mounting Depth
Hey, I'm sorry if this has already been posted before but I wasn't able to find anything as of yet: I'm installing new speakers sometime soon and I wanted to know if anybody has experience (perhaps with these specific speakers) working with mounting depth. I'm trying to install Alpine SPR-60's to replace my stock Bose in the doors. They're listed as a 2-1/4 inch 'top mount depth'. I'm putting them in a 2006 GT roadster with the Bose sound system.

I'm sure you didn't do any searching because the car is now 13+ years old and this has been discussed countless times. In a nutshell, what you typically do is remove the original speakers and trim the guts out, just leaving the outer ring. That piece is then used as an adapter. You screw the new speaker into that old speaker ring, and then reinstall that assembly into the door. Also, hopefully you're aware that aftermarket speakers won't work properly with the Bose system.

Try this link:
http://www.crutchfield.com/Car/outfi...car.aspx?g=399 If the link doesn't work or the configuration I put in is wrong, just re-select the appropriate stuff to see what they show for it. Not sure if they mention it but dcains is correct in trying to use inproper impedance speakers with the Bose. If anyone knows the workaround, rutchfield does. |
Hi Felorius, and welcome...
A depth from wall measurement of 2.5” is about the limit, so stay under this measurement. The depth you ask about (2.25”) will fit. I have Focal Slims with that depth and they fit. Also… dcains makes two very good points:

I am not trying to be a wiseass but if you google what you are looking for and put"My350z.com" it will only search this site. Works a little better than the search on here

Thanks for the help but honestly the attitude is uncalled for. I've found answers but I figured confirmon this forum before spending money on something that won't fit because I've found conflicting answers. I'm also planning on replacing the headunit soon but I didn't know aftermarket speakers weren't compatible with the stock radio. Thanks for the heads up.
