Subwoofer Boxes - Recommend one ?
I have owned and used 2 different sub woofer enclosures since I purchased this vehicle in 2004. The first one was a huge box with two 10's and the second was an "under the strut bar" with two 10's.
The big box used all my trunk space, so I switched t the under the strut bar box. Neither box was ported. I have (2) JL Audio 10's, but I am not sure whether or not to continue using both. I am also using a JL Audio JX 1000 amp. In your opinion, what sub enclosure would you use ? (Not nec. the ones that I have) Ported or not ? 1 or 2 subs ? I realize sound can be a personal preference. I would like to hear from 350Z owners who are happy with what they got (or experienced). |
Over the years: I went from from a single 12" RF sub in a sealed box, to two JBL 10s sealed, to a single band pass JBL 10, now I'm down to a single sealed 8" Kicker CompR stored away in the cubby where the Bose sub would be. I still enjoy listening to a well balanced crisp system, just don't care for the bass vibrating the entire car and what feels like my heartbeat being thrown off, if that makes any sense.

I use the JL Audio subwoofer enclosure that is specifically made for our cars. It houses 2 x 10" subs. A year or so ago one of the subs blew out and they no longer made it. I purchased two of the replacement/newer subs and put them in the box and they work perfect. I forget the model subs. It sounds good, clean, hits hard, and blends right in. I have them paired to a JL Audio 5.1 sub which also drives my front components, rear components, and the subs. I would recommend going on their website and checking out the enclosure. I've had mine for a little over 12 years now and love it. A little off topic but I recently started dynamiting the areas behind the factory speaker locations and it has made a difference for me in terms of reducing rattle and i just feel like it gives cleaner sound as well. I would recommend this to anyone interested in a nice home project and a bit better sound.

Are any of us really ever happy...
Ive done Single 8 Double 8 Single 15 Single 10 All in sealed boxes, and just picked up a ported box to try out... All have done a pretty good job... All in the hatch. |
DIY build - 2 8” fiberglass enclosures.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/my350z....40f8abc74.jpeg I built these to maximize trunk space. They don’t hit hard due to the small sealed enclosures but the overall sound of the car is balanced and full. I’m happy with them. |

They look fantastic, though - great work! Are those 8" or 10" subs? I have a JL Audio Stealthbox and some Infinity 10" subs waiting to be installed in my Z.
8” Rockford Fosgates. I tried a couple others (Alpine S and Morel) and the RF’s sounded the best in those enclosures. |
SRQ Down firing versus custom front face in my Roadster
I’m the owner of a 2006 Roadster.
Whats better? the SRQ down firing box or a custom front facing sub in the cubby behind my seat? will the SRQ rattle everything if I lay Kilmat in the enclosure first? and if I lay it, should I lay it in such a way that it creates a box back there? whats the difference in sound between the 2 options? |
If you realy want bass. I have a custom box built into my spare tire spot. So I don't have a spare tire in my car. It's one 15" woofer.

I currently have the downfiring box with a 10w3, would sound better firing into the cabin IMO (I'm looking at my own options as well... roadster means no trunk builds). |
I plan to install two 10-inch subwoofers, I think that this will be quite normal. I found them by accident when I was looking for internal enclosures for my computer see this . I really love the clean and loud sound of music, I hope that everything will work out when I do it and I will write it.

JL Stealthbox with W6's
I have 2 JL 10W6V3 in a JL Stealthbox. Tight fit but I made a couple of spacers to give them room to breath. I have an HD1200/1 powering them along with plenty of sound deadening throughout the car. They play very loud when needed but most of the time I have to tone them down a bit.
Next year I want to try ported. Hopefully this helps because Ive seen people post that W6's won't fit in that enclosure that is designed for W3's but they do and they sound pretty darn good. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/my350z....bd99bbe5a7.jpg |

My new (to me) Z convertible has NO bass. Pretty sure the sub behind the Bose grille is either missing or broken. So I figured I could simply buy a 10" sub and replace it. I now understand it's not so simple. Apparently I need to have the sub mounted in a box. Can anyone recommend one I can buy that will fit in the factory location? (The right size, the right shape, simple installation, etc.)

What is the size of the space behind the sub? Will it fit a pre-made box such as this?

If I knew how to open up the panels and measure, I wouldn't ask in a forum. I'm an ordinary car owner, not a car stereo installer. This is supposed to be a forum for 350Z owners to help each other, not insult each other. |
