Anyone that's interested in a lightwieght optima battery

I just ordered one from http://batteriesareus.com It's only $105 with free shipping. Just thought I'd share since this was the cheapest price I found.

zand02max Jun 25, 2004 11:32 AM

thats cheap, I paid $149

cehome Jun 25, 2004 01:31 PM

Yelow top? That's a deep cycle battery. For everyday use the red top is more appropriate. Yellow top is only if you are running the car stereo with the car off for extended periods. Other than that the red top is a wiser choice at a cheaper price. CCA is 625 for the Yellow top, Red top CCA starts at 720. Don't understand why alot of Z owners jump on the Yellow top band wagon

ZU L8R Jun 25, 2004 03:39 PM

I do have a stereo system which is why I bought the yellow top and also why I posted it in the audio/video forum.

ss350 Jun 25, 2004 05:55 PM

Are both the yellow and red top optima batteries lightweight? how much weight do we save? I also recently installed a new stereo (about 800 watts rms), shoul di go yellow or red?

It might be based on information from Optima's own website!

Under applications it recommends the following:

Car Audio: Yellow Top/Deep Cycle only Red Top/SLI will not be covered by warranty.

Also under the following descriptions:

Yellow Top ...Vehicles with computers, extra radios, electronic components, lights, winches, etc. will create excessive amperage drain that can damage a starting battery. Recommend the OPTIMA Yellow Top to provide fast recharging and longer life due to its' ability to cycle over 300 times.

Red Top/SLI...If the vehicle has few or no after-market accessories and uses a stock or upgraded alternator, the OPTIMA Red Top Starting Battery is the appropriate choice.

As was mentioned, this is the Audio/Video forum and most people reading these posts have either upgraded, or are considering upgrading, their cars with "..computers, extra radios, electronic components...".

Here is my experience with www.batteriesareus.com:

I ordered the yellow top battery on May 17th, they charged my credit card on May 21st (3rd party company), and I waited a week, nothing happen.. so I called them, and they said it's in backorder, and should be in stock in a week.

So I waited another week to call them, and they said they just received it in the warehouse, and sort it out now.. It will go out asap. I said ok and waited another week. Called them and they said the battery has already been shipped out, but they have not update the tracking number on the web since the web hosting company has probelm?!?! so I said just give me the tracking number, but they had to search and find it for me, and call me back.

I waited for 1 more day, they never called, so I wrote them an email stating that if they don't call or email me with the tracking number, then I would file a claim with my credit card company in 1-week. they never called..

I waited 1 week, then I was going to file a claim, but decided to call them one last time.. they transfer me to the manager, and said that my battery was just shipped out the day before, and they will get the tracking number for me.. I finally got an email notification later on that day, and it was shipped out that day, and not the day before..

long story short, they need to improve their customer service... the battery is very good priced, but their service sucks..

hope this helps someone to decided when purchasing from them..

how is the fitment in the battery tray? do you need to fabricate a bracket to make it fit right?

Anybody else had a bad experience with this company?

alphared Jul 1, 2004 12:09 PM

ZU L8R, how long did you have to wait to get your battery?

I order mines last week, and still haven't gotten a tracking number. They said that once the credit card clears (first time I ever heard of any company doing that) then they'll begin the shipping process. Now I find out that they charged me again for the battery + shipping.

So, a week later, no battery, no tracking number and $220 charge on my credit card.

I haven't gotten mine yet. I ordered on the 25th and they charged my card the 28th. I'm expecting it next week sometime. I don't have a tracking # but since my e-mail is down they could have sent me one and I just don't know.

Any updates? They credit me back the extra battery charge to my card (but conviently forgot to credit back the extra $10 charge)

Still no tracking number and no battery :(

Nothing yet

How bout Odyssey batteries? They are lighter.

I weighted the optima ones, they were only 6 lbs lighter than stock. Odysseys are about 15lbs lighter.

It will sit on the tray with no problem. Very easy to fabricate some kind of bracket to hold it down. But you have to rearrange all the wires because the terminals are in a different location. What I mean is that the terminals are located further back and not in the corners of the battery.

If I remember it correctly, you need to relocate the ground wire or replace it with a longer one. The positive wiring has to be rerouted out of the bottom of the tray to make it longer.

ZU L8R Jul 12, 2004 10:44 AM

Just got off the phone with them. They said they think my battery has shipped and are going to be calling me back shortly. They were very nice and apologized for the dealy, they said they fell way behind and are now catching back up on orders.

I though the made some reverse terminal model that had posts like stock?
