Well I had my DVD/Navigation unit installed in my Z today by the same company that installed my Viper Alarm 690, but it was a different store.

The install went fine up until the installer came to me and said, "uh you might wanna come here and take a look". I was like, oh crap, they dented or scratched my car.

So I go to my car and the installer says, I wanted to show you this before you think I did it. He says, whoever installed your alarm sytem put two screws through your heater core rubber lines. I was like, your North store installed my alarm. So they call the North store to verify, and the guy that installed quit 2 months ago. Figures!

I was like, so thats why my damn car always smelled like antifreeze all the time. (BTW, I had this looked at the dealer and they said it was normal a few weeks ago)

So the installer says he can fix it, and puts some type of epoxy over the 2 holes and seals it shut.

Well, I am no expert, but guess what, the crap he put didn't work, it made it worse.

As I was heading out of the dealer I get about 10 blocks from the stereo shop, my whole interior is filled with smoke (or hot air) from the heater core. I was like, WTF, my car is going to catch on fire. So I hurry back to the stereo shop and they said they would have to hold my car in the bay overnight and somehow get it to the dealer the next morning.

Good news though, my drivers car carpet and floormat was drenched in radiator fluid from the busted heater core line. :mad: :mad:

I am so pissed it is not even funny.

Do you think the dealer has a replacement heater core line, should the dealer do it, or the stereo shop replace it?

I am up in lingo as what to do. The stereo shop said they will fix eveything tomorrow. I just want the dam thing fixed and my carpet and floormats cleaned.

What do you all think I should do? I am hoping my dealer has this part or can they get this part overnight.

Thoughts?

BTW, the NAV works great but for some reason, I could not get the voice thing to work, although I didn't mess with it but for like 5 mins. My CD changer kept shutting off when certain turns were coming, but no sound from the female NAV voice. Is there something to program, ect? I have the optional voice kit, BTW.

That is the least of my worries, I just want my car fixed. My car has definately been PUREVIL since Day 1 :mad: :mad: :mad:

And the bad part is I am leaving for Texas in a few days.

I would have the dealer fix it, but the shop pay for it...that's why they have insurance. They can't deny it either, because the guy even said it was whoever installed the alarm. Have the dealer replace the carpet, floormat, and line.

Yeah, they claimed repsonsibility and said they would fix everything.

I think they should replace the carpet, but they said something about steam cleaning the carpet.

My problem now is, how do I get the Z to the dealer. I can't drive it, because the whole interior fogs up and smokes, literally when you drive it.

I guess they will have to pay to get it towed on a flat bed.

This sux, because I am traveling out of state next week. I hope they can fix everything.

I'll keep you all posted and let you know how it turns out.

Well the manager of the stereo shop called me and stated the line that was punctured was not a rubber line, but a metal line. He stated they would weld the holes shut, and clean my carpet for me.

He also stated eveything would be in writing in case the weld does not hold up, ect.

I went ahead and agreed because the dealer would have my car a few days and I am leaving on a road trip in a few days.

What should I ask for compensation from them? Should they reduce my NAV install price, I paid them $200 for the install.

I got my Valentine 1 in, I wonder if I should have them hardwire it for free.

I was getting this same unit installed in my wife's car, but they are never touching my cars again.

What the hell is the deal with these stereo shops? This is third one that has messed up my car.

Stereo installation is not like it used to be. Seems like a bunch of teens working that don't even have any type of formal training.

Having a vehicle that had a similar problem, although not caused by an inexperienced installer here is my opinion. I would strongly recommend having the dealer do the work and bill the shop. Welding the line may not be the best fix, especially if they arent very familiar with it, second I doubt a stereo shop has the ability to pressure test the line to make sure all leaks were indeed fixed. Even with steam cleaning, getting that musty antifreeze smell out of your carpet will be tough even with a thorough cleaning, it should be replaced. Then there is the warranty issue, who is to say that this shop is out of business in 6 months and your line starts leaking again, then you have no recourse. Best of luck and I feel your pain. I would also ask for free installation on the work done due to the screw up.
