New HU recommendation...

I am looking to add a nice HU simply because I want an AUX in for MP3's. So I need an AUX in option and may as well be XM Radio Ready.

1. What do you guys recommend? Alpine? Model #?

2. Do I have to replace all my speakers (I have stock non Bose now)?

3. Is there a wiring kit that goes from Stock Z to new HU? I would like to install it myself, but be able to put the stock back if necessary.

4. Can you utilized the empty space behind the drivers seat and add a sub and amp to a setup easily?

Thanks!!!
Anthony

1. A few alpine models that comes to mind are cda-9831, 9833, 9835

2. Recommended but not necessary. Before I replaced my speakers, I had the 9833 with the stock speakers and they sounded rather good once you play around with the filters of the Alpine.

3. Yes, Metra has a wiring harness. You can find one online or any car audio store

4. It can be done, but those who have gone that route had to dynamite that area and build cutsom boxes for the sub.

anthony,

I will post some pictures (when I get home) for you so you have an idea. I have a 10 sub (infinity sub) in the stock location. Sound very nice.

Get the alpine 9833. A lot of features.

Alpine 9835 Head Unit iPod w/ Bose

If your MP3 player is an iPod then I would highly suggest the Alpine 9835 w. the alpine KCA-420i iPod interface. I had this installed and interfaced with the existing Bose speakers and sub by Boston Audio Design. The sound is good, better hi freq than the Bose HU, the interface with the iPod is excellent. 10,000 tunes in my Z is good for 32 days before a repeat.

Playlists:
File search:
Search by Artist
Search by Album
Random

Everything seems supported with the exception of "smart playlists"

The 9835 displays 3 lines of text while the other Alpine HU's display only 2. The extra line of text makes scrolling through songs, playlists, etc. easier.

Important: This radio comes in two configurations:

XM ready or
Sirius Ready

Sorry cehome, that had me ROLLIN! I believe you're talking about Dynamat, not dynamite. Slight difference... Sorry to thread hijack. Just to keep this on track, anthony, if you choose a single-din style radio, you should buy the dash kit from American International. I've just finished the install with mine, and it fits like a glove and looks GREAT. Metra also makes a kit, but the look and finish is TERRIBLE! Just so you know, buy.com has the good kit for like 10 bucks. They may even have the wiring harness too. Good luck with your install!
