Passport 8500 w/Mike's Mount Rattles!

I have the Passport 8500 x50 Radar/Lidar detector mounted with Mike's mount to the shaft of the rearview mirror. It's hard mounted.

My problem is, it shakes up and down SO MUCH. It's so annoying. Has anyone solved this problem? On normal roads, it shakes up and down. On rough roads, it probably oscillates about 3 inches in diameter.

Mine also moves "up and down" slightly on "normal roads". Haven't taken it on "rough roads". The first thing I replaced was the two chrome nuts that attach it to the mirror post. You can get plastic knobs at Lowe's or Ace Hardware. They allow you to get it much tighter. Can use your fingers Vx small wrench.

Those stupid hair ties that I find lying all over the house work great...good for thousands of things:D

I went to home depot and got a rubber furniture foot, you know the ones to not scratch a wood floor... put it on the detector between the it and the mirror (make sure it hits both, like its wedged in there).

Presto, no more bounce and rattle. :)

I used a grey/black piece of Foam, cut to fit between the Mirror and the Detector. It works perfect, acts as a shock absorber and is actually very stealthy if you cut it so that it does not look tacky.

I bent the metal piece that attaches to the mount further up so that the detector is pressing up against the bottom of the mirror. No rattles.

DETECTOR RATTLES

The detector rattles because the slot in the detector is bigger than the thickness of the suction cup bracket. If you bend the male end of the suction cup mount so that its tight going into the detector slot it will stop the rattle.

Got any suggestions to stop it from swinging left and right Mike?

and just an FYI... the base model (or the non-homelink rear view mirrors) have a stubby piece that is used to adjust the position gets in the way. Were these mounting kits not meant for base models? and one of the long metal screws you gave me was bent... but other than that... i like it

Mine doesnt move at all, slight vibrations but that is expected as it is affixed to the mirror
