Replaced my Bose, link to pics
I have been replacing the crappy Bose system in my car and I finally got it finished. I have a little tuning left to do, but the initial sound is well beyond my expectations. The single 12" driver hits a lot harder than I thought it would.
Here is what I put in the car:
Sony MEX-5DI head unit
Metra dash kit
Polk 6.5" components in the front, 6.5" coaxials in the rear
JL Audio 300/4
JL Audio 250/1
JL Audio 12W3V2 in a fiberglass enclosure
What I was going for was as stealth a look as possible, so I did like several and hid the amps in the original sub enclosure and had a box built for the spare tire well. I have been toying with the idea of getting a blank panel and putting a plexiglass window in so that the amps are visible.
Please excuse the low quality of the pictures. Its was terribly overcast.

man, thats nice! great job on keeping it stock looking. Except for that bada$$ head unit, lets just say it *might* give it away.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy it, and I hope it sounds as good as it "dosent" look.

Bose sucks
To be a high-end speaker manufacture, the speakers in the Touring model are really cheap. Made out paper, and have anyone looked at the sub-woofer? It looks like a flat pancake, with a tiny magnet that can't produce lows/bass. In other word, we need to get credit back from nissan for the bose system. So we can buy a true auto system that belong in a Z. I am Planning in replacing the sub-woofer.

Nice install!
As for the Metra Kit, the easiest method I found was to call your local Circuit City, talk to one of the guys in the install shop and ask them to order one for you. They should get it in a day or two and it will run you about $18-20. Also, you can buy from them the two wiring harnesses (one for Nissan, other for Alpine), which will allow the install to not require any wire splicing...just snap and go.

Danimsta,
Yes, Crutchfield sells this HU for $1k retail. I got mine shipped new for $650, and it only took 2 days to deliver. I bought it on Ebay from a user named ezorderusa. He has a store on Ebay where he sells a lot of good stereo stuff. Check out his feedback for recommendations. It's a shame that JL doesn't sell online, because I was stuck with limited discounts from Hifi Buys on the amps.
