installed Zenclosure's new S-type sub box
 

Just got the package yesterday and got it installed today...Zenclosure's S-type sealed subwoofer box! I had been using Kicker's ported sub box for the kicker 10" solobaric L5 (square type).

quality: the box looks great, the black carpet is a perfect match to the Z's interior. All of the edges are tight, sealed, and rounded. The bottom-back edge, the portion of the box that will be facing forward and against the rear hump (where the rear speakers are) has a strip of carpet on it to prevent scratching the plastic :) (I like small details like that).

Sound: It's sounds perfect - I greatly prefer a sealed enclosure vs. a ported box...the bass is tighter!

fitment: It slides between the rear hump and rear strut bar - after it sits in there, it doesn't move side-to-side or forward-rear...I really like that it won't move around (I didn't want to drill any holes to secure it)...just this week I got a little carried away in the wet Seattle weather and got the rear end loose; when I got home, Kicker's ported sub box had slid to the back portion of the hatch!
-The amp rack is a very nice touch; it too fits really nice...it looked too big when I first got it, but once you lay it in, it's a snug fit and doesn't move. It actually looks stock from the inside.

*When my wife saw everything installed, her first comment was that she couldn't even tell that the sub was there...she then connected that if she couldn't see it there, potential theifs would not know as well.

box looks great....zenclosures are quality stuff

its an awesome box. I have been running a JL Audio 10w6v2 in mine for about 2 months now and love it.

The shop that installed all my audio hated the box... but I haven't had any trouble out of mine. I'm rocking 2 10s and a 1500 watt amp. :icon11: The amp isn't turned all the way up. :icon38:

Thank you so much for posting this. I've been searching for months for some kind of custom enclosure for solobarics and havent found anything. I have two of the 10'' solobaric l7's and this only is good for one, but other than that this is exactly what ive been searching for for months. I can not thank you enough for posting this. Great write up too... it seems like you like the setup a lot. I'm looking for some solid, pounding bass with a nice clean look for my solobaric and this is it. Now if only Zenclosures can make a setup for two solobarics- I would be set.

Zenclosure's under strut box might work for you, it fits 2 10" subs and have ~0.7 ft^3 for each sub...that's within the volume suggested by Kicker. here's the link to it 2-10" box

i got mine in a couple weeks back. i havent gotten a chance to test fit it yet but seems like a very nicely built box. besides, my cat likes playing in it while its sittin on my bedroom floor.

Do you think theres anyway that my two subs would even fit? What would i have to do... drill holes? Does anyone else think this would work with two 10 inch solobaric l7's?

Unfortunately the square subs(when using two 10") hang over the top edges of the box which prevent them from fitting correctly. Another problem is you have to remove so much wood to mount the L7's it deminishes the integrity of the faceplate and makes it very weak.

I'll see if I can come up with an alternative which will make this setup work.....larger faceplate or something.

you can fit 2 ,10" squares , but not under strut bar

and you would lose your trunk space , but you could still keep your spare , but you would be PORTED

you need to be willing to 33" x 20.5" x 12 "

but if you load them 2 , l7 , and turn on the watts , 1000 rms to 1500 rms

145 db on the TL give or take 1 either way
147 , 148 , db on the ac give or take 1 either way

but you will have NO TRUNK

Keeping the trunk space is a major issue. I really do want to keep the trunk space and not have some big enclosure that just looks stupid back there. There are three things that I want out of my sub setup..

1. A custom enclosure that gives the car a "Clean" look
2. Trunk space (as much trunk space as possible)
3. Pounding bass

I would definitely prefer to have my two subs back there, but I also want a clean look that doesnt take up too much room. I might just have to get that setup for the one solobaric like in the pics above. I would also be willing to spend a little extra to get both solobarics in there too... I'm just going to wait and see if Mike/Zenclosures come up with anything for me.
