Yeehah! It's finished! :)

OK, a quick run-down of what was used in my system (some parts changed)...

Headunit: Clarion VRX935VHD: dvd/mp3/cd/7" touchscreen/motorized w/ Sirius w/ 6 disc changer

Components: Boston Acoustics Z6's front and rear, tweaters mounted in factory positions in the front, left as one unit in the rears.

Subs: JL 10W6V2's in a beautiful (and practical) enclosure between the strut tower and rear "bulkhead" (where there rear speakers are enclosed).

Amps: JL 500/1 for the subs, 300/4 for the components; amps (and everything else for that matter) are mounted on a rack in the factory sub enclosure compartment (behind the driver's seat).

EQ: Audio Control EQS (6 channel); flush mounted behind driver's seat

Misc: all braided RF RCA's and RF power cable (2 or 0 ga, I forget), RF 1 Farad cap for the sub amp.

Design requirements: access to spare, majority of hatch space still available and retain storage behind passenger seat, proper airspace for subs (I've seen quite a few on this forum with very inadequate airspace :o), and outide of sub enclosure/headunit, I wanted it to look stock for the most part. Also, I needed easy access to the EQ since I'm a tweaker (I'll likely be tweakin for a few months :)).

Eric, my installer, also left me enough cable to pull the panel off behind the driver's seat and sit on on the floor (if I push the seat all the way up) to make tuning a bit easier for me. That was nice of him. :)

I prefer stealthy and tasty to flashy and blingbling. :)

I just got back from New Orleans (drove 11hrs) and need desperately to clean up my car, it's filthy! I'll post some pics later today (Friday) after I wash'r up and clean the interior.

Eric Hunn at Mobile One in Metairie, Louisiana (adjacent to New Orleans) did the install. He's one of two certified Master Installers in the state of Louisiana. He does fantastic work and is incredibly thorough and very easy to work with when it comes to designing a system. I can't say enough good things about him. He's a great guy. :)

Oh yeah, Viper 2 channel alarm (had no need for the 4 channel). Not that it's really pertinent to this post, just thought I'd throw it in too though! :)

Your system is really similar to mine. :)

I also went with Z6s in the doors (with the tweeters placed in the stock location) and in the rear speaker pod. I am curious to see where they mounted the four crossovers and what they did with the front speaker grills, but I guess that will be answered with the pictures...

Your criteria in regard to usefullness of the limited car space after the stereo/sub install sounds very similar to mine too. My main design requirement was access to the spare tire and room for my golf bag (minus the driver). Plus I wanted everything "hidden" behind the panels, like you did (again anxious to see the pictures).

I imagine you are really satisfied with the system, but I am wondering why they didn't install the Clarion DVH920 (DD 5.1/DTS/DPL II processor) for true "surround sound" while everything was being installed? Now, where are those pictures...? :)

My net access has been f'd all day. :(

I didn't go for the 5.1 processor because there's really not a good place for a center channel speaker of decent size. Plus.. I mean really, I won't make use of the 5.1 that often. Not enough to offset the cost and work involved. :)

I just opted not to do it because I don't really think I'd use it.

I saw your car as well, very nice. :)

The only major difference is I wanted more airspace per sub then you have (you have 3, correct?) and I wanted to retain the factory speaker grills over the components to keep it as stock looking as possible. :)

I just picked up my dig cam from work and it's dark, but I'll try and shoot some pictures anyway.

Give me a few. :)

That's about it, sorry for the crappy pictures. If there's anything in particular you want to see (or get more info about), let me know and I'll snap some more. :)

Thanks! I'm very very pleased with it. :)

looks nice!! what are you using to cover the amps, the EQX (cant tell is thats the smae side in the pic)? and what are the chances of you having pics or taking pics showing how they mounted the tweets in the OEM spots and the look of it now?

jeffrey Apr 19, 2003 11:57 AM

Yeah, the EQS in the factory cover where the factory sub would go with the Bose system is what covers the amps. It's all in the one compartment.

The tweeters are in the factory location behind the mirrors. I can take a picture of it if you want, but it doesn't look very different. :)

so they just mounted behind the panel and it looks no different than before? Or did they cut the holes bigger and mount the new ones there? Just wondering b/c my tweets are to big to go behind and trying to get some pics of anyone elses that were flush or surface mounted to have an idea of the look
