The upgrade I've been working on
 

Wires run, box built, amps powered...... Houston we have sound! :)

Components that stayed:
Alpine W200
Alpine H701
DLS 6.3i (front stage)

Upgrade components:

2- DLS A3's
1- DLS A6
1- DLS A2
All these replaced one DLS RA50. :)

Image Dynamics IDQ15. Replaced one DLS IR10".

Here is a picture. It's hard to tell from the photo, but the box and amps slope down toward the front of the car. Two DLS A3's and one DLS A6 are in hatch area. DLS A2 is in cubby with H701 and blue tooth adapter.

Next step is to make a nice trim piece to cover the whole thing with openings above the sub and amps. Then clean up the wires etc... and then shop for a new alternator. ;)

This should give you and idea of the slope of the box and amps.

Thanks. :) Won't have any time to work on it this weekend but I'm excited so far. Still lots to do. Making it look "finished" is probably the hardest thing to do.... and something that will be a challenge for me for sure. Artistic > me. :)

I like your progress so far, it looks great. IMO your project is much better than mine because you did it yourself. I can't wait to see it completed.

Thanks, K. :) Honestly, it's because of people like you, Bing, Dom (Mr X) and the others who share how this stuff comes together that makes it look "doable" by ordinary shmoes like me. :D It does feel good to accomplish something.

Afterall, it's only wires, wood, connectors, amps, crossovers, power caps, screws, faceplates, templates, glue, band-aids..... lots of band-aids...... LOL!

tell me about it.. but seriously, no joke!! any of you ever venture into the side doors (i.e., window motor, series of pulleys, etc..)? not a fun place to be, that's for certain.. it is simply <<amazing>> how much crap is behind that thin piece of sheet metal of a door! i dunno why, but for some reason that window motor, or part of it, was like "razor-blade" sharp and was not racking up "buddy" points with my hands that day, haha.. i learned the hard way, but did learn a lot about the windows, nevertheless :D.. moral of the story is explore your car, learn about it and have fun doing it, just don't get too cocky thinking you're some pro mechanic or something.. lol..

again DVFlyer, it looks great. ever think to cover the dist. blocks with some plexi? it would look bad-ass IMO.. atleast if planning to leave that area open. :)

They have little plexi covers, but otherwise it'll be us Z owners' little secret. :)

There is nothing that says, "extra cool sportiness" more than CF. Can't wait to see.

My system is not that loud. Gains are set at about the 5v mark on the amps and my plan will be to set them via a volt meter. As Kwame was saying in his thread and reiterated by Bing, when you get a "clean" system, "loud" takes on a different meaning. You can crank it without cringing..... my home stereo equipment is like this and it's nice to try and duplicate that in a car.

how come the amps are taped?

I taped them while I was putting them in and taking them back out of the car so they wouldn't get scraped up...... that and I hear it adds 50 watts per channel... ;)

It'll come off once I button everything up. :)

Figured I'd add how I am securing the sub box...... this was MUCH easier than grinding off the spare tire hold down. It fits perfectly flush with the bottom of the box.

Cut a piece of wood to cover the hole, drill a hole for a bolt, add some caulk and bolt it down. :)

Haven't had a whole lot of time to work on this, but I finally finished the hatch area. It's not perfect, but it was a fun, learning experience.

This is the battery. Two runs of 0 gauge (probably overkill but that's kind of the point. :) ). I had to grind away some of the plastic of the OEM connector to get the Ring terminals to sit flush.

This is my grounding distribution block. 4 gauge power wires into block and then a 0ga grounding wire.

I wasn't happy with the wood "outriggers" for the amps, so I bought some 1/4" thick angle brackets. They are shock mounted onto the sub box. There are rubber grommets between the box and bracket. And then there is rubber between the amp and brackets.

Next up is going to be tweeters. I want to place them in the corners of the dash in custom pods..... now I just have to figure out how to make pods. :)
