DIY Power Window Motor Rebuild (Permanent Fix)
 

Gentlemen,

Why pay $200.00+ for a new window motor when you can have a like new motor for a fraction of the price. Cleaning the commutator & brushes is only a temporary fix with any brushed DC motor. Eventually the brushes will wear down to a point where sufficient electrical contact cannot be established with the commutator. The only solution to this problem is replacing the brushes.
NOTE that these window motors don't have any bearings, only bushings. Therefore this motor can be rebuilt time and time again if needed. But each rebuild should last for years!

I was asked by a member of these forums to create a video tutorial on this process and here is the finished product. There's a link in the description of where you can order the replacement brushes.

Yeah I'd rather buy a new motor

Aftermarket motor prices have dropped as well as most OEM parts prices for the 350Z. I know in my area re-built window motors can be had on Craigslist for 50-60$. If you don't have the tools or time, that is a more logical choice.

I did my motor today.
Pulled the window and removed the door plate.
The brushes were gummed up and looked like grease contamination.
Still had plenty of brush left so I flicked it in and out and freed it up.
Did the window reset and I was good.
I did put a bit of white lithium grease on the tracks but it was spotless and still slippery.

Window works good but I will probably do this brush replacement eventually!
