Anyone have any idea where I can get/make a OBD diagnostic tool that is compatible with the Z's CAN system and doesn't cost the earth? I'm after data logging to a PC.
I don't mind building it but all I can find is schematics for the J1850 PWM, J1850 VPO, ISO9141/14230 protocols.
The CAN standard is ISO 15765.
Cheers,

OBDII is completely different from CAN ( Controller Area Network ).
With OBDII the ECU has to supply a limited number of standard diag codes which must be doccumented. There is provision for non standard OBDII codes also and the manufacturer doesn't have to disclose them. CAN codes on the other hand are manufacturere specific - there is HEAPS of info on the CAN bus form just about every electronic component but the actual codes are not disclosed. BOSCH provides info on CAN ( its a BOSCH developed protocol ) and INTEL have a range of CAN bus transciever chips. Its not going to be an easy job - CAN is MUCH MUCH MUCH more complex ( and interesting ) than OBDII. THe Z has both OBDII and CAN ( and some factory specific ) data available via pins in the OBD plug ( under steering wheel on Aust Z ). Would be VERY interested in your progress.
