G'day all

Just noticed a comment there about leaving a card to join up - i am Melbourne based but have been reading the Forums here for awhile. I had a BMW before this and they organised days at a few Tracks and things if you were a member of the club. Do you guys do that kind of thing to? Or are you just referring to the Forums here?

ypwpat 08-30-2004 08:40 PM

for Track Days. Sometimes DavidM let us know if we want to come or not :)

Cheers
Yun

I will keep an eye open - hey yun how do you get the picture of your car alongside your post? Does not seem to be in Profile?

ypwpat 08-30-2004 09:23 PM

go to Control panel > Edit option> then you'll see the option right on the bottom of the page.

Cheers

I'm going to Sandown on the 19th September, but that is now all booked out so it's too late to join up.

Though, the next 'event' that I'll probably be interested in will be off-street drags at Calder ... I have not done that yet, and with the weather looking up it would be a good thing to do (socialy as well as competitively) in about a month or so ... I'm thinking in October and hopefully few people from here will have show interest (and have a go) as well.

ps. I never restrict the invites to just Zeds ... so whatever car(s) are welcome.

I had a BMW before this and they organised days at a few Tracks and things if you were a member of the club.

I'm a member of the BMW club as well ... they have a fair few events of interest.

Next time i want to go to Track event and learn from it :)
So let us know David :)

Thanks
Yun

Sure thing ... you (and anyone else) can come to the club-sprints anytime as spectators. It does not cost anything as you just turn up (anytime) and just watch. I do it sometimes with other clubs to see how the're going as well as as to see how their events are run. So it's not a bad idea to turn up just to see how it works before you participate. Also, in some events you can go for a ride in a car (as a passanger) if you're there early enough (and know someone).

Besides that will let you guys know when I'm going again, and you can then book yourself in and partiticipate. Though for that you need to organize yourself before hand as you'll need:
- CAMS L2S license
- fitted (within reach) fire-extinguisher
- a club membership (that is any club membership)
- helmet

The only way you can get on the track without the above is when you do a proper high-perfromance driving course ... but that not only costs ~$300, but also you need to have completed a L1 and L2 courses beforehand. Unless that is something you're specifically after, you're better of doing 'driver training' with one of the car clubs as you can do that without any pre-requesits, costs less than $150, but you do need the items mentioned previously.

Oh, or you can do a track 'open'/'fun' day when they open the door to the public and anyone can turn up and take there car there ... for that you only need a helmet.

matthewb 08-30-2004 11:11 PM

Thanks for that David - lots of options there. I would love to do a performance driving course but money might get in the way - like u said. Still, I am not currently a member of any car club. Of course I am driving a Track Z, so what clubs am I eligible to join? What clubs would you recommend - at this stage i am probably more of a "family fun day" kind of driver - but would like to do the CAMs stuff at some stage...

Talking about Fire Extinguisher.

Does it Need to be FITTED or Can just have on it. Because i can just borrow one from my Dad's HSV and just put it behind the seat, etc.
