anyone remove power steering? how's it feel on autox or roadcourses?
i'm considering removing my power steering and am wondering if anyone else here has who tracks their car.
I'm willing to deal with it in traffic and wouldn't mind some stronger arms, but am concerned with autox and making quick turns |
are you doing this more for feel or power gains?
If for feel you may consider underdriving the p/s pump (larger pulley) HP gains are minimal (less than 3HP) |
My miata is non-powersteer. Hit me up if you wanna get a feel of it.
|
well someone said they dynoed it and gained 8whp without the power steering on the Z
I'm thinking it's more for both feel and power and a little less weight up front. If it drives ok during autoxing then I can probalby live with the stiffer feel. i dunno, trying to feel out people's experience homiusang, thanks, maybe i'll take you up on that when i get some time |
I wouldn't think that'd be all that much fun, or worth the weight loss, not on an autox course, but who knows.

i took it out in my nissan nx turbo and its fine when you're driving, non noticable power increase, but parking is a pain in the ***. Forget trying to parallel park!

The Z33 has significantly higher corner weights and much higher caster specs then the miata. |
I believe the grand-am cars have some type of modified steering system. Don't know if it's a complete PS removal though.

I asked BJ about this a long time ago, and he said that the car would be very difficult to muscle on track due to its weight and the width of the tires (I'm running 275s all around).

No power steering on a race track ?
Big no no in my opinion. You risk driving straight at the first corner. |
Don't do it! lol
