a few questions!!!!!

i had heard that your wheels tend to get a little messed up during auto cross,
and to fix that problem of excessive tire wear, i would have to mark my tires with chalk to find the correct tire pressure.

is this true? any other recommendations so i can save my tires!! or should i get wheels/tires designated for this event?

currently have KDW2's on motegi touges

also softer or harder suspension setting?

Blah, just go out there and have fun. If you REALLY start to enjoy it, you may want to look into a dedicated set, ie Rcompounds

I wouldn't say it would mess up your wheels, at least nothing permanant.

It's not a bad idea to bump up your tire pressure about 5 psi, especially the fronts. That will help prevent tire rollover from hard cornering.

Don't sweat it too much when you're starting out. You're not going to be driving to the limit for a while so wheel damage and tire wear are minimal.

My wheels are fine. I don’t hit anything with the wheels (knock on wood). Hard driving such as autocross will wear tires. That’s the nature of the sport.

What you are referring to is attempting to judge the correct tire pressure so that you are riding on the tread not the sidewall. Come spring race with me and I will give you a couple of hints.

for autocross the cones wont hurt the wheels
its the clowns that change you tires that mess them up

Generally my wheels get more marks from transporting the tires and wheels, but most of that is just rubber marks on the wheels (and maybe cone marks on the wheels, but those are very rare). Yes, they just buff out.

+1 on the additional 5 PSI -- at least. On street tires, I generally run 44F/40R.

Street tires will wear faster than DOT-R compounds, primarily due to tread squirm and the associated heat. You'll generally heat cycle your street tires out before you run out of rubber on the fronts, the rears will go bald, however (lots of power and it's WAAAAAAAY too much fun to actually use that power!)

Where do you go for this event?? I havens heard of anything in Baltimore but I've never taken the time to investigate either

I race with several clubs including Ripken Stadium, Aberdeen, MD. Word is that Ripken Stadium will allow no racing in 2008. So I will just have to figure out something else.

no wheel damaging in auto-xing. just pure fun.......unless u do something really bad.

start with an easy tire pressure like 40psi all around. ie my tires max is like 50psi i think. and just learn to drive it. u should adjust 2psi at a time. and i do just fronts, depending,,.....then will do just rears....
lastly just have fun.
