How to Get Wheels/Tires to Race Day
 

Does anyone have any advise on how to get your trackday/autox day wheels/tires to the event? I saw one user made a homemade trailer.

I just bought a dedicated set of some R compounds and there's not much room in the car for all 4 of these guys, and I don't want to drive on the road with these tires.

Before I got the hitch installed, I got all four tires plus all my gear in the car. It was not my favorite way of hauling everything.

Most of us who take equipment to events use the Harbor Freight 40x48 trailer (or something similar). My current setup allows me to carry four tires plus most of my gear on the trailer, with my helmet and other equipment (stuff that I need regardless of whether I need the DOT-R tires or not) in the car with me.

This setup has worked for me for quite a few trips -- although I now have my wheels a lot more secure (and obvious that they are secure) on the trailer now.

BTW: you should reinforce your bumper and mounting brackets to pull something like this one..loaded to the max will cause some flex in the bumper mounts.

Thanks for the info, for now I'm going to try to stuff my wheels in.

Take the spare out, one there, one over the speaker bar between the head rests (just in front of the rear strut bar), and two in the passenger seat, belted so they don't flop over. If they aren't too wide two will fit there barely. You can put other stuff on the floor in front of the passenger seat and in some of the free spaces in the trunk.

Thats the most creative I have gotten.

Just be super careful closing the hatch... i shattered a rear window doing that :(

Tire the tire on the strut bar to the strut very well so it does fly forward in a crash and take your head off. That always made me nervous.

I think the Tennis balls really are a nize touch...kinda low rider lookin :cool:

Yeah, I check clearances since I tore up my last hood leaving a tool.

I've only hauled wide tires/wheels, so for me yeah, but narrower wheels might get past the seat.

Everything Fits, I am amazed. I have 4x 245/40 18". Two tires standing up in the front passenger seat, one in spare tire location, one laying across in the back between rear strut bar and seat heads. Room to spare for helmet, jack, etc... thanks for the info. I'll post a picture next autox session.

Not surprised. I fit 2x 275x40x17 in the passenger seat and 2x 295x40x17 in the back for pretty much every autocross I go to.

It works well enough for a cheapskate, but I'm hoping to get a set of wets, which will require a hitch + trailer. $$$$, but then I'll be quick no matter the conditions, assuming I can figure out that round thing in front of the driver's seat.
