Any track guru's
I had a friend tell me a while back that wet carbon fiber hoods were not allowed on tracks. I don't remember his reasoning behind it but can anyone confirm or deny his claim

Some organization just list on the rules that hood pins will be required. Never heard of one that just outright banned them.

...and it depends on the class. If you race STOCK or BS or similar, there may be NO modifications allowed. But, that's all I can think of. :dunno: |
I'm thinking the OP is referring to track day events, i.e. HPDE, hot lapping, or something similar. In which case the track should list the cars requirements. Never heard of that one though.

Probably a trackday organizer rule. Considering how poorly made some of the cheaper ones are I can see why. But I haven't seen that yet either.

I had heard that events like the Texas Mile were considering outlawing them because one exploded off an sc300 at 190+ mph. Totally different venue, racing, etc. Just check with the event staff.

It really depends on the quality of the hood. If its a typical bling bling fake CF hood (fiberglass with a layer of CF on top) then there is a concern of it blowing apart at speed. I've seen it happen a few times at Cal Speedway - once while riding as an instructor.
A real CF hood with a high strength core like Nomex should be fine if its properly attached to the car. |
