I am not sure about that. I do know according to Hoosier's website the 255/35/18 has the same tread width as the 275/35/18 or maybe it's 275/40/18. The 255 on the 17 inch wheel is not like this. The guy in TTA who won Nats had a c5 Z06 and ran that tire. That gives him 10 points back to do other things. It's kind of a cheater tire. I use it, but I can just add 4 points worth of weight back to my car and run it still. The TTA guys will have to change a lot and run the 275's or just stay 255's. Either way they have to lose more points worth of other stuff to run it. The guy who won TTB at Nats ran this same tire too. His car would in TTA now because of the new rule change.

It's kind of crappy because the TTA and TTB National champ ran this tire anf their record setting times are harder to get to now because of this rule.

What does NASA say about the Goodyear DOT tire? In T3 we run a 245x18 tires and T2 runs a 285x18 tire. If it affects those sizes they will chase away SCCA guys. Maybe thats what they want.

That tire is 10 points. The same as a Hoosier R6. Sizes are a different set of points. It varies based on the car used and it's base tire class.

Just out of curiosity (I don't run time trials, etc)....and with the 275mm I am at a theoretical 58points (with aero and lower weight than I can't get in autocross trim).

Guys, look at the 245/40-18s. Its a 265 and on a big fast track like California Speedway's Roval I was actually faster on the 245 Hoosier then the 285 Hoosier. At Buttonwillow and WSIR the 285 was faster.

I am using a 9.5" wheel. Might be too big for a 245. I have a lot of thinking to do. Might still run the 255 or a 275 since they are the same points.

Huh? All you had to do was take the time to click on the link and see that the size is not a 245 or 285. So I guess NASA is not trying to chase SCCA guys away after all, phew thank heavens! I would think SCCA guys would be running to NASA not the other way around.

I think the change is silly since as some have stated there are other tires which could be thought of as cheater tires (I run 225s that are pretty much 245s). But, at least the change is not meant to hinder a specific car (though some argue it affects only the ZO6 vettes), the rule applies to everyone.

How difficult would it be for a 350Z built to run NASA PTA/B/C, to enter an SCCA event and race T2/T3? Impossible unless it was built to be a T2/T3 car.

How easy is it for a T2/T3 350z to enter in a NASA PTA/PTB/PTC event and race? If you take the time to understand the NASA TT/PT classification system you would realize how flexible it is vs the SCCA T2/T3 system. For example, cars like the solstice/sti/cobalt/mustang aren't given "consessions before ever being on track," they would be classed using the points system or a combination of hp/wt ratio and points. No system is perfect, but NASA is more inviting than SCCA w/ respect to classing.

Problem is...the T3 and T2 cars would be classed the same per points. It would be an under-prepped P/TTB. With a good driver....Rob, Brian, Bill, etc....they could probably compete, though.

Errr...actually they may be TTA. Since the top running 350's in SCCA are all HR's now. 285 A6's, remote shocks, springs, sways, T2 weight is well under the 33-- that NASA has listed, diff, test-pipes + Exhaust, etc....

The guy who started the thread won TTB at Nationals, so this new rule should negate his times because it would put him into TTA.
