Where do you mount your GoPro?
I got a new GoPro for track days. Can't find a really good place to mount it. I've got the suction cup mount. You can get decent views with it mounted on the driver or passenger side window, but that's not an option on the track since the windows have to be down. I've got no cage or rollbar.
I can mount it on the rear window looking forward and it isn't bad but you mostly see the back of the seat and driver with a smaller view of the track.
Could mount it on front windshield which gives nice view of hood and track but no view of driver or interior.
I'm going to try a helmet mount. That might be the best. Feel silly testing it around town in my helmet.
I'm not comfortable using the suction cup outside the car until I figure out a tether of some sort.
The only other idea that I have is to velcro tape a mount onto the speaker enclosure behind/between the seats. It might be a little too low.
Any other ideas much appreciated.

I usually mount it at the rear side window. You get a very nice view of the road and you can clearly see the gauges if in 1080p. I've left it on all day with no problem. Just make sure you clean the surface like other said.

Three different views of the same course in one video:
(front bumper, rear side glass, rear fender)

Here's an over-the-sholder view with a regular cam and a $50 crusecam.com mount.

The front window outside

I've even done it backwards on hatch outside

Excellent ideas guys. Great videos. That gives me a lot to work with. I'll try them all. Like the helmet-cam a lot.
Still nervous about untethered external mount. That little camera cost $300....plus it could end up in someone's grill. But, I'll give it a try too. Can't wait to get back on the track....April 27.

The helmet mount works well. I'll definitely try that. Your video makes me miss my G36 coupe. I love my Z but there are a lot of things I miss about the G.

Here's my question. Do you want it to see what it to learn or see what you are doing, or make cool videos for your friends. Either is a prefectly good reason they just have completely different goals and mountings.
For the latter there are great shots from the sides, and mounting low helps show the sense of speed more, which doesn't always convey well in video.
For the Former, see if you can mount it to see your hands and feet, plus down the hood to see traffic and track position. If you don't have a rollbar to mount it to there are some pretty good headrest mounts.

Good question. The honest answer is both. I'm still at the DE level, but pretty much ready to solo at my local track (CMP), so 1) I've still got a lot to learn and video can probably help and 2) all of this is still a novelty to me and recording and sharing the fun is great too.
Bottom line is, I'll play with it and experiment and see what works, what I like, what is most informative, etc. I've kind of gotten the video bug and I'm enjoying editing and using the GoPro for other stuff too so its just another part of the fun.
