Grand Am Cup at VIR 10/1 - 10/3 :: who's going?

October 1-3 at VIR... come out and support the 350Zs in the Grand Am Cup! Come out, meet the drivers, check out their cars, bring a good camera, and cooler filled with beer. If it's allowed, perhaps we can do a little grill out / BBQ or something... It's going to be an awesome weekend!

While we're still waiting on a few details such as food/refreshments and possible parade laps, we've got enough info now to go ahead with getting people 'signed-up' so to speak. This will help us nail down some of the details 'cause it will give us a better idea of how many people are coming.

Discounted Tickets
In order to get discounted tickets, the invited club must send one check to VIR. With that in mind, I decided that pre-registration would be in order... plus we have to order the tickets at least two weeks in advance. Stacy has been kind enough to set up online registration and payment at www.myautoevents.com. Triangle Z Club will absorb the transaction fees since we are 'requiring' pre-registration.

With that said - simply follow the link to the website, create an account, then register - it's that simple! Click here to be taken to the registration!

Accomodations
Hotels are quite affordable down there. Looks like we're going to try and stay at the Innkeeper - West, in downtown Danville, or at the Innkeeper in Roxboro, NC. Cost is $52 / night.

Please PM Stacy or myself if you have any problems or questions.

So where is the Triangle Z crowd? New faces always welcome. Be there!

Attendees as of 8/4:

Note: I will continue to update this thread between now and the race. More details will follow.

Special thanks to Stacy @ TZC for facilitating this event for us! We owe her a beer (or two, or three)...

For sure John. I also plan to do the Barber Motorsports Park race right after VIR. Both tracks should be 350Z tracks! There will be 5 350Z's running by VIR! I think Jeff from Performance is going to try to make the VIR round too!

genxnympho Jun 27, 2004 11:50 AM

Well I won't be competing but hey I'll cheer you guys on and check out your Z's.

John,

Any ideas for a hotel besides Sleep Inn? Seems to be booked already. Some stuff in Danville is still open. PM me if you want too.

John Jun 28, 2004 06:07 AM

Has anybody else booked a room yet? I think we should all book at the same hotel...

I agree. Comfort Inn & Sleep Inn seem booked by the race teams. Expedia finds a couple of places back in Danville.......

John check your PM.

Sounds like interest is good... and there will be some Triangle Z guys there.

I'll ;-) 'be in touch' ;-) with the guy on group-rate tickets... Hopefully I can... I mean hopefully he can arrange a car corral as well so we can all park together.

Keep an eye on this thread.

As far as hotels... when we run there in April we stay in Roxboro, NC - for those of you coming up from the south it's usually quite a bit cheaper, and maybe only 10 minutes longer to the track.

Car corral is a great idea!

Stack Jul 3, 2004 07:26 PM

I'll go ahead and ask this question:

Would most of you (who plan on going) be going for Sunday only, or for Sat/Sun, or even all three days? (For a schedule, go to www.virclub.com and click on the Grand-Am link).

I'm asking because there is a possibility that the Triangle Z Club may try to hold their inaugural car show on that Saturday. With hopes that we can arrange a caravan on Sunday to the track (about an hour and a half from the triangle area of Raleigh/Durham/Chapel-Hill).

I am going for the Cup Race. Saturday and leave Sunday morning.

Stack Jul 4, 2004 12:18 PM

Hmmm... is that when the 350Zs are racing? Saturday?

I thought they were mixed in with the other classes on Sunday.

This may throw a big kink into our plans to do our show that Saturday.

The 350Z's are all in the GA Cup race which is on Sat.

John Jul 5, 2004 09:04 AM

I'll be there both Saturday and Sunday. If I remember correctly, Danville is about 10 miles closer to the track than Roxboro.

Stack Jul 5, 2004 09:53 AM

Yeah - anyone coming from VA north and western NC should probably stay in Danville. The Stratford Inn is a good place... inexpensive and I've heard they upgraded things like carpet and tile.

I should have the ticket info by the end of the week. If I remember correctly from previous years, they want the tickets purchased by the club - meaning your checks would be mailed to Triangle Z Club. Any problems with this? My guess is that since VIR sells tickets through various outlets, this is the only way they can guarantee discounts.

I'll find out about cooking out... I know they offer box lunches to groups as well. If they don't allow grilling, maybe a site sponsor would be willing to chip in for the lunches?

I'll keep you guys posted... I hope none of you mind that I've taken this on. I figure any discount will be a good one, and now that there are Zs racing again, what a great excuse for a multi-club event right?!
