04 lights to 06 lights

Hey guys! I know this is an answered question, but I'm getting confused about the stock 04 headlights in the z and the options. I'm not exactly sure which headlights I have or how to tell between halogen and xenon, but I'm looking into buying 06 headlights and taillights and was wondering if I was going to have to do any custom wiring or anything... thanks in advance!

If you have base model/non-HID headlights, you will have a 6-pin connector that you will need to convert to the 8-pin that HID headlights use.

If your 03-05 already has HID, then it has the 8-pin connector and it is a direct swap for 06+ HIDs.

CZP is one of the many companies that sells the 8-pin and 6-pin harnesses in order to do the conversion.

Halogens use a filament bulb while HIDs are completely different and use a ballast.

Lots of write-ups on this site to do the conversion with the different wire colors.

Halogen lights (base model ONLY) come on full-bright (cold) immediately. HID take a moment to "warm up" to full temp/color. Looking like you turned on a house light with dimmer on low and turned up the dimmer to full bright.

But as stated, best way to know what the car came with as stock is to use the VIN decoder to see what trim level the car is. Base is the only model with halogen standard, all other trims came stock with HID. Of course, it could have been converted already, check the wiring for conversion splices/adapters.

Op - who are you buying the lights from? I may also be looking for a set. Thanks.
