help repainting interior
 

Hi guys, I am new here and have no experience working on cars, this is my first project

I started with repainting the interior more precisely started with the arm rests then will continue with the other parts

I lightly sanded them with 400G sandpaper
cleaned with isopropyl 99% alcohol
3 coats of duplicolor sandable primer
2 coats duplicolor vinyl and fabric paint

I had waited 10 minutes between coats

after the first paint coat I saw a small imperfection but I decided to ignore, but after the second coat it has covered most of the armrest

Any idea what I'm doing wrong and how should I fix it

instead of painting mine, i just bought new ones from courtesyparts.com

but i am going to say, something went wrong in the prep

Wild guess, but the adhesion problems are exactly where you put your hands. Likely there was still oils on the surface. If you try it again, strip to plastic, wipe with acetone, wash with Dawn, then alcohol.
I used Krylon Chystal over 5 yrs ago, still looks new. Gl!

Other than the above suggestions, there are a few different things that cause the wrinkling in the paint. The first coat could have been sprayed on too thick which makes the surface dry before the lower layer. Typically, several very light layers are recommended before one medium layer. Paint also has to be sprayed during certain temperatures and specific humidity ranges. The back of the can should have the specs. That should also tell you the time between coats. Usually, it's somewhere between 10-30 minutes between coats, but if you wait more than an hour, you have to wait seven days to recoat. Different paint has different requirements.

This or you didn't go by the correct cure times for the paint and they affected each other when you sprayed the top coat.

I took this as a project just for the sake of doing it so I'm dealing with the hassle of learning and repeating as expected no issues.

I am sanding the pieces again as suggested, in those areas the paint peeled away so easily while the remaing surface area it was holding very strongly

So I'm expecting it was either my fingerprints or too thick coats over those areas.

I'll be away for few days then i'll finish sanding and repainting being careful in handling them and light coats thank for the replies
