what's the skinny on the Stillen Brake Master Cylinder upgrade?
 

thinking about buying it, not sure if it's worth it - anyone running it? Any comments?

How is this thing installed?

I'm going to be using either the crawford or cusco strut bar - any pics of how this thing looks when installed?

I'd like to know as well. Last time I heard, one of the guys at Performance Nissan was testing this out. Maybe he can chime in & let us know what he thinks of it.

If I recall it will only fit with a few strut bars. I didnt take the plunge because i would like to see Tony or someone test it first for clearance :)

looks very "snake oil" to me.

I was going to try this out, but the strut bar that i had was in the way, and it didn't allow the brace to fit. Now that I'm back to stock, (Rickdogg has my old ARC bar), i will try this out shortly....

I have it, but not installed yet. The brake master cylinder I just can't get to move when parked and pressing the brake. So I dunno, maybe when you're tracking and using the brakes like crazy it'll start to move a little. In that case who knows - guess it could help.

i've never complained about the pedal feel on our cars - are you guys talking brembo or normal?

I've heard so many negative things about Stillen and actually witnessed some of the fitment/reliability problems with their products, it's made me wary of anything with their name on it.

As far as the master cylinder goes, I know some cars have problems where the master cylinder mounts are thin pieces of sheet metal so the mounts flex under hard braking, but that's usually cured by welding additional sheet metal on the mounts, not with cheap looking braces.

doesn't the 06 350z get a new fancy master cylinder? If that's the case...

Actually, brake master cylinder boosters or braces have been used in a wide range of cars, including many race cars, and it's a proven mod that works, albeit, some cars benefit more from it than others of course. The honda guys have been using things like this for a very long time. Often times, its the master cylinder itself that is made from materials too thin for such high performance braking, and sometimes this can induce the flexing, other times it's the firewall or the mounting plates, it varies from car to car. It's not a magic cure-all modification, but under heavy braking and racing conditions, it can help.

As for Stillen's issues, I've heard of similar issues in the past as well, and to be honest I have not really seen anything to back that claim up, IMO at least. We sell their products all the time, and never really have any issues with them and our customers are satisfied with them.

This is a popular mod on the 240SX.

a lot has changed in construction/materials since then though - is it worth the money on the Z or is it one of those "death-of-a-thousand-cuts" mods that there are probably hundreds of things you could/should do before worrying about it? (that's the impression I get)
