for Z owners that don't track their cars, are brembos necesarry?

i have those regular brakes for my 05 enthusiast and i always hear people talking about how great those Brembo big brake kits are..

are they really necesarry? do they make that big of a difference?

i dont track my Z, hell i don't really even race it. its a daily driver and i just love the way it looks and the handling aspect of it.

the stock brakes will probably be good enough then.

dave079 Mar 10, 2006 08:58 PM

Definately not needed for non track use other than for looks.

Z PHAT Z Mar 10, 2006 09:00 PM

If you have FI then it might be needed :) to stop your Z.

Brembos are good for track use, they last longer, but for otherwise the stock brakes are as good if not better.

The Brickyard Rat Mar 10, 2006 09:47 PM

Only necessary for Brembo salesman!!

KYS1219 Mar 10, 2006 09:59 PM

it helps for suddenly stop, and stop faster.

Nexx Mar 10, 2006 10:12 PM

actually for just going from a high speed to a dead stop, the stock brakes have been tested to stop a bit faster then the brembos. If remember the magazine properly it was an old road and track. track use is a whole different matter though

archman350z Mar 10, 2006 10:36 PM

Adding Brembo brakes to a street vehicle adds nothing more than liability: Sure, you could stop real fast, but that 7500lb Ford Excursion behind you won't. A Z in stock form will out-brake 90% of the vehicles out there...why mess with it?

If your not gonna go to the track then Brembo brakes wont really be needed. Stock ones just do fine :D

Big difference even for street use between Brembo 14 inch BBK and non brembo stock brake.

My 04 350z enthusiast w/ stock brake felt kinda weak for Z weight. My brother was suprised how weak it was compared to his s2000 when he test drove my z. I drove his honda, it felt much better in term of braking.
So I switched to Bremo 14 inch BBK, my Z now can stop on a dime. Brake pedal feels much better. Stopping distance is obviously better. Just for daily street use, I m amazed how much better it is compared to stock. It's totally worth it.

Brembos are good if you have some kind of leg tremor that makes you hit the brakes repeatedly.

Less brake fade.

Also, if you have Brembos, you can announce it to others. "Yeah. I gots dem Brembos..."

loquitoy2k Mar 10, 2006 11:38 PM

my car is stock.... and I can tell you that I've never had a car that will brake better that my 06 Z.... my stock car is perfect for me....

maybe something was wrong with your brakes because the stock z out-brakes the s2000

If it weren't for my brembos, i would have probably hit that Nissan Titan a few weeks ago

pimpsta Mar 11, 2006 01:38 AM

I say take it one step at a time. If you feel you need more braking power, then maybe upgrade to steel brake lines, fluid, and get upgraded pads. If that fails, switch out all 4 discs. After these mods, you will be able to tell yourself whether you need Brembo or not.

The Brembos do NOTHING for stopping quicker. They are only to reduce Brake Fade after Constant, repeated braking when tracking the car. As for if you're FI, it would make NO difference. Braking at 100mph is still 100 mph hour whether your car has 230hp or 500hp. I could however just be jealous because a red BBK would loook great on my Super Black Z!!

Its a bit like asking do I need performance tires? I don't take my car to the rack. On the street I drive conservatively.

ZlleH Mar 11, 2006 08:45 AM

Exactly, I figured people would know that big brake kits are good for reducing brake Fade by now.

If you track your car at an autoX, I think the normal brakes are good enough, but if you are tracking your car at a road track, I think you might want to get a big brake kit.

Anyone here with stock brake lives in S. Cali? I dont mind letting you test drive my car to see the big difference between stock vs brembo BBK.
