Discount Tire's Centric Rotors?

Hi, I go to a Discount Tire in West Co. (by Westfield Mall) for alignment.. I trust the owner very much on this one because he helped me through alot of car problems.. someone who doesnt try to rip me off.. (i hope).

anyways, when i was doing the 30k mile service, the tech say that my rotor needs replacement.. The front one is undersized. Its because the Dealer (Power Nissan El Monte) cut my rotor a month ago and its 0.30'' undersized. and apparently the dealer installed my Pads wrong..

so in the end, they suggested Centric Rotors for 449.60 + 75 labor.. ( i believe its high performance rotors?) On the paper it says 449$ for front rotors only, but i think its a typo because i asked for price of all 4.. Or are centric rotors that expensive? anyone know which model they will be getting? i didn't ask too much detail there because i was in a rush, but I'll head back today and get all the info about this centric one. Are the rotors good?? compared to stock? my brakes been squeeling for over a year and nothing i do solves the problem

Sounds like you just need to fix something on the brake pads for the squealing. Im not too familar with Centric rotors, but whats wrong with the OEM rotors? You could just get a set of OEM Brembo blank rotors from Summit. (Im not talking about brakes for a track Z.) I believe I used a set of rotors from Autozone on my last Z and they worked fine.
Brakes are just something I would consider doing myself. If you can make the time to do it, it would save you some money.

Im not mechanic enough to do that =P I prob. dont even have the tools for the work sry.. well time comes that I kind of want some slotted or drilled rotors.. im guessing this could be the chance that i move away from OEM..

the original OEM were squeeling hard and the brake lights went on, I took it to the dealer and they said I drove it too hard =/ maybe.. i had a few spirit drives but iono... anyways, i took it to the dealer and they cut it all that stuff within warrenty and put on new pads.. when i did the service 2 days ago, the tech measured it and the rotor is 0.30'' off the standard Z size. cut it too much + wear off?? bahh..

how dangerous is a too skinny rotor?

Prices for rotors.

Only $90 a piece at Mynismo.

Summit only has these EBC rotors, but are as cheap as $200 for pair.

Some Brembo rotors on Ebay, $220 shipped. I might even consider these.

Well too skinny of a rotor is a concern. But if they cut your rotor, then I would expect it to be less then stock obviously. Im not trying to say that this shop is trying to rip you off, but perhaps taking it to another shop, to get a different quote, wouldnt be a bad idea. Or atleast for them to look at it.

what they explained is usually when they cut it, they are suppose to leave a little margin for the rotor to wear off but still within standard size. they said the dealer just the problem away and slap on some pads.. and 0.30'' is alot below standard? im not sure.. those guys offered me to look at rotors myself of any kind and just bring it to them, they will just put it on for labor fee.. but they suggested the Centric ones, thats why im asking are they good..

but ya, i should go to my mechanic for daily fixes and tell him to look at it

ps. If i do go brembo like those Ebay ones, im gonna need brembo calipers n stuff.. wouldnt that add up to be huge $$$.. im saving for my GSXR600.. just got my license yesteryday

I like EBC pads and rotors. I have found great deals from AJ USA on them and they give free shipping.

hmm both of you recommend EBC? and the link USN sent has all 4 add up to be 350$.. are they better than Centric? I guess 100$ doesnt matter that much, just which one do you pros think is better =P

I dont track the car ever, just spirit drives occasionally and stuff.. and the EBC ones are slotted and drilled? does that make it more vulnerable to break faster? I thought i heard somewhere that slotted only ones are better

also, does stock calipers and pads fit on the EBC ones?

EBCs are not drilled. They are dimpled. The integrity of the rotor is still fine.

I have used the EBC rotors on 3 cars and never had a problem. They do make a swishing sound sometimes, but I have never noticed it.

i guess ill seriously consider EBCs.. im not worried about the swishing sound.. found out that alot of EBC owners all have it forever.. but my Exhaust > swishing sound anyday.. i can barely hear my radio

EBC makes those new ultimaxx rotors with those little slots cut into them for quiet time. Pretty sure same price as the dimpled jams.

bacalhau16 Jun 2, 2007 11:49 AM

The brembo rotors I listed from EBAY were for a Z without the Brembo calipers. They were just rotors that were made by Brembo.
The EBC rotors do look pretty nice as well. USN has been around a while, and has a really nice car. So he knows what he's talking about as well.

1) my warrenty is over..
2) letting them fix the brakes and they prob will screw some other **** up that i have to fix later.. I mean seriously.. they installed the Pads wrong.. my car is leaking a bit because they did something wrong with the oil change and its leaking a little.. what else can they do right..
3) Dealers = $$$
4) Dealer is 20 some miles away while Discount Tire is 3.. and Dealer won't let me rent a free car

so prob not solved.. prob gets me more problems.. I'll never trust the dealer do anything! And do you really expect me to go back and say, u guys F*ed up my Rotors back when I had warrenty and now i want a free one.. they prob just laugh and send me away

SiR_NisMo Jun 2, 2007 03:05 PM

you said they put the break pad on wrong take it back and tell them tem that the break pad was put on wrong. you're too solf:icon11: :icon11:

m0nkie Jun 3, 2007 02:29 AM

so u want me to drive all the way back and tell them that? and possibly expect them to fix it a bit.. they will deny the rotor problem 100% and wont offer me anything except expensive cost to fix it.. why even bother going back, solve my problem at discount tire
