Cheap Big Brake Upgrade

Just a thought...i know its been done...but im currently looking for new wheels, and trying to be smart, i want something that is gonna clear a future BBK upgrade so while looking into this i thought, for a brake upgrade, would it be suitable/efficient to order the OEM brembo calipers/rotors/pads and bolt them onto your Z? i called courtesynissan out in texas and they told me it would be $1,407 for rotors pads and calipers all the way around. and an extra 75 dollars for shipping out to Connecticut. i know some people have done it with used calipers but would you need a new master cylinder? its basically a bbk minus the lines/fluid. you could even just order the calipers, not sure on individual price and get the rotors or pads for cheaper but keep in mind youll still have to remove the dust shield....if anyones interested you can call at (800) 527-1909 or visit courtesynissan.com but the parts werent on their website....

any thoughts/comments/questions or suggestions? its jst a thought i had for a cheaper Brake upgrade

incase youre wondering why i "edited" all my posts, its because i was just wondering to see if it would make my signature appear...

ya its been done. in fact people do this quite often. new master cylinder is not needed. And i sincerely doubt courtesy is selling that whole setup with calipers for that price.
I believe what you were quoted was per CORNER.
Let me know what that works out to.

edit:if you want cheap brakes, buy used. This courtesy idea isn't going to work out as cheap as you think.

he told me it was the price for all four. when i had asked him, i didnt ask for a quote. i asked for the actual price as if i were ordering them over the phone. he asked if i would be needing rears as well as fronts, i told him i would need all 4 and aftter being on hold for about 5 minutes he told me the total would be 1407 before shipping. ill call again later in the week but im pretty sure we understood each other pretty well

He was probably quoting you for rotors and pads.

TheFarmer 01-19-2011 08:47 AM

That's really (really!) cheap for a new set of factory Brembos!

terrasmak 01-19-2011 08:51 AM

Go to there site and look up the parts, its going to be more than $1400

0350Zz 01-19-2011 08:53 AM

alright, im gonna call back. they gave me an order code so they still have everything i asked for on their computer, im gonna call back and clarify. ill get back to you guys in a minute

angelo350z 01-19-2011 08:53 AM

That can't be right. The calipers are over $1K each brand new.

0350Zz 01-19-2011 09:01 AM

ah...there was a misunderstanding. he had put the touring instead of track model into the computer. he had looked into it right after i hung up. new price would be about 5700 after shipping for new brembos at which point a stoptech bbk would probably be cheaper all around. you guys were right. thanks for bringing me back to reality haha

that's kinda what I thought.
Wilwood has their 14" front 6 piston for 1598 right now if you want an "afforadable" bbk

Stoptech would be more than a little cheaper than $5700
You're talking serious baller brakes for that money.

edit: wilwood 13" is $1498 also fyi
double edit: if you have a hookup with a parts guy somewhere, they can get brembo front calipers for like $275 each. not everyone has these contacts though ;)

herrschaft 01-19-2011 09:58 AM

Check around online, I picked up a used 6/4 pot BBK for $1,700 off Ebay.

If buying new, I think the Akebanos are the cheapiest.

Well if they will hook you up and you are dead set on Brembo's I'd look into it. the mark up on these things is like 400% Even at wholesale price its usually about 30% off.

Just check the Brake thread, someone is always selling something. Saw something in the Vendor brake thread for front and rear rotora's on sale.
