Mclaren Mercedes SLR Caliper with ML63 brake disc adapted to the 350Z!!

This is my new proyect to put some big brake to my 350z... i have a frriend that work in the Mercedes Benz here in Dominican Republic and they upgraded the calipers of an SLR and gave me the originakl caliper of the Mercedes... Now im finishin the work to adapt it and here are some photo... Tomorrow i will go to usa for 3 weeks and when i came back i will install them... they are ready to install...

Calipers have 8 pistons and the disc have 14.75"

In to see this completed.

What's the weight increase? Hope you have the tires for that kind of braking power.

inesshell 09-18-2013 10:25 PM

wow, good luck

Crazy

Wow! in for progress!

JCITY 09-19-2013 01:05 AM

Just wondering why you need that much brake.
What is the purpose of this conversion other than seeing
if you can do it?

It looks good  haha

You're going to need a larger diameter MC to push enough fluid, as those calipers look to have much more volume/piston surface area than OEM. Too small a cylinder will give a soft pedal with too much travel. And, you'll need to increase the rear brake size to maintain proper front/rear bias, as well. These are all basic hydraulic rules, which you probably know, but as already stated, seems like much more brake than is necessary.

Aside from the hydraulic issues, what's the increase in unsprung weight going to be? That brake rotor must weigh 30 pounds!

max-hid 09-19-2013 07:07 AM

It weight a lot but i wanted the look.. i dont track my car its only for a better looking car... thanks for all the sugestio but only wanted to shared with the comunity... i know it weight more, that i would have more brake than i need, but i love the way it will look with my 20" rims...

in for end result

Make sure you make these brackets correctly.

Did you redrill the rotors? Don't ML use 5x112? The holes will "fit" but they won't be centered.

The bolt pattern is irrelevant to centering. The hub hole is what centers the rotor, not the bolt holes.

From what I can tell, they're only about 3% larger piston area than the stock brembos. FWIW, the performance/standard brakes are about 3% larger area than the track, despite using the same bore master cylinder. The standard front calipers on the 06+ Z are 15% larger area than the track fronts (and the rear caliper is still 43mm) and they STILL use the same 17/16" MC bore. With these calipers, the pedal won't feel any different than a Z with standard brakes.

I can understand your point, but you may want to actually sort the numbers before offering advice that's based purely on assumption. He really doesn't need a larger MC. We already have one of the largest master cylinders on the sports car market in our cars.

I think it's a pretty cool project. My only concern would be price and availability of pads. I'll be going down a similar route in the near future. It's surprising, but if you understand how to engineer a brake system, it's actually significantly cheaper to build a superior system from supercar parts than to pay the ridiculous prices people want for used/beat up OE brembos on here.

This is an update photo of the project... Now the claipers are installed and bleeded... Next week i will be testing them when i have the car on the floor... Still working on the engine and intercooler modificactions...

Note:That wheel dont belong to that side... so dont tell me rotation its wrong its only testing clearence...

max-hid 11-14-2013 12:15 PM

I want to paint the calipers but dont know what color use.. my car its orange im thinking in bronze like original brembo calipers or red... any good opinion wil be appriciate it...

taywan 11-14-2013 12:24 PM

Good idea but who can just get some Benz calipers that cheap and easy like you did? Anyone who would have to spend the money for those should just get a bbk from Wildwood rotors stop tech etc. Looks good though. I'd prob do brembo color if not something unique and diff.
