Brembo vs. Nissan - weight of rotors and calipers
 

There are other threads concerning the differences in tire weights and wheel weights. In order to get a true feel for what the total unsprung weight at each corner is, does anyone have the comparative weight of the Brembo and Nissan (standard) calipers and rotors?

Brembos (heavier) + Rays (lighter) = just about the same.

Well, I don't have an answer either, but I'll take a guess...

The only difference between the Performance and Track are the Brembos, wheels, and aero kit (correct?)

If you compare the curb weights of the Performance and Track, and remove the wheels, you end up with:

Performance 3217 - 4x(26.6 lb) = 3110.6 lb

Track 3225 - 2x(18.2) - 2x(18.6) = 3151.4 lb

The difference between the two is 40.8 lb. Now, all you need to do is figure out how much the aero bits weigh and you have your answer. Anyone know the weight?

At the most, the Brembos may be 4lbs more per corner... that's it...

Standard Brakes
296x24mm Front Disc = 16.2 lbs
Single Piston Front Caliper = 12.2 lbs
292x15mm Rear Disc = 11.9 lbs
Single Piston Rear Caliper = 6.0 lbs

Track Model Brembos
324x30mm Front Disc = 20.0 lbs
4-Piston Front Caliper = 9.5 lbs
322x22mm Rear Disc = 17.6 lbs
2-Piston Rear Caliper = 4.3 lbs

Brembo 332x32mm Front Upgrade
332x32mm Front Disc Assembly = 15.1 lbs
4-Piston Caliper and Bracket = 10.8 lbs

Brembo 355x32mm Front Upgrade
355x32mm Front Disc Assembly = 16.8 lbs
4-Piston Caliper and Bracket = 11.1 lbs

And underbody diffusers.

I now figure that the Track Model compared to the Performance Model has an advantage of 22.6 pounds total less unsprung weight due to the Brembo/Rays combination. Brembos are 10.2 pounds heavier than Nissan standard calipers and rotors, while the Rays wheels have a 32.8 pound savings over the Nissan 18" wheels.

What is now puzzling is that the 22.6 pounds lighter weight Track unsprung weight adds to the 41 pound weight difference calculated by Pork Chop to give us a Track increase in weight over the Performance of 63.5 pounds in the (complete) Aero package, and the spare tire - the bigger spare needed by the Track to clear the Brembos. Another thread alluded to, (but did not confirm), increased chassis stiffeners on the Track model. Could this account for the weight delta? What else could it be? There is certainly not that much weight in the Aero package could it?

Where are you getting the 63.5 lb from? The 41 lb weight difference that I calculated was without wheels. If you do the weights without wheels and without brakes, the weight difference comes out to 30.6 lb:

Perf: 3217 lb - 106.4 (wheels) - 92.6 (brakes) = 3018
Track: 3225 lb - 73.6 (wheels) - 102.8 (brakes) = 3048.6

I also don't see how the aero pieces could weigh 30 lb. The spare might be a little heavier, but only by 1-2 lb maybe? Where is the extra weight coming from?

So now we are down to figuring out where the 30.6 pound differential comes from. Conceivably the total Aero package (f/r spoiler and diffusers) could amount to this, but it does sound like a stretch.

The rear spoiler kit contains an extra gas strut and bracket to offset the added weight of the spoiler to the rear hatch. It is installed on the left side of the hatch. Does anyone have a non-Track 350Z to see how many gas struts hold the rear hatch open? My Track has two gas struts.

I also just weighed my 17" temporary spare - it weighs 41 pounds. Can someone weigh their non-Track temporary spare?
