If you're ordering now, I would find a dealer who is willing to sell it at MSRP. But don't forget, dealers have a set allotment this year. If they "sell out", you will not be able to order it until next year.

Default call around

When I preordered I had to call 5 dealerships in state and two out of state till my local dealership was ready to sell at msrp. If they think you are going to go somewhere else, they'll deal, but if you got z fever bad and don't won't the hassle of calling around and haggling then be prepared to pay at least $2500 over msrp.

The only thing is it may be hard to find any z's left. I know the preorder phase is over, but there are a lot of people selling there spots because of things that came up, you may want to try the classified section on this site and see if someone is selling their spot, this way you get the z at msrp and don't have to wait till January.

It may take some doing t get MSRP, but I'd look around esp. out of state you may do better (cali seems to be able to mark up more than other states) and have it shipped in or take a road trip and drive home.

some guys still advertise or will bite on a post @ zcar.com. Also, ask mossy nissan el cajon (san diego). Youre gonna have to look around, but ultimately

TRY NOT TO LET THESE ***** RIP YOU OFF!!!! MSRP IS THE ONLY FAIR DEAL!

The Bay area Nissan dealers were all asking $3000 to $5000 over MSRP when the preorder program started. Some may have backed off under pressure from Nissan NA. I went through my credit union to find a close by dealer who would honor the MSRP. You might try that for regular orders. The credit union can deal with the fleet rep at the dealer and get you a better deal. You are under no obligation to use the credit union for financing.

For those of you who did not "Pre-Order" a Z ....one very 'key' thing to realize...and that is, buying a Z "non-Pre-Ordered" gets gets you only what's coming into a Dealers 'regular' stock shipment/allocation. Your chances of getting one the way you would have ordered it are atleast 98%, unlikely! So now, not only do you NOT get your Z the exact way that you wanted it, you end up paying more for it too because Dealers don't have to honor the "only at M.S.R.P." agreement with Nissan thereafter!

And you all know, once all of their "Pre-sold Orders" are all gone... that very next batch/allocation will go for ALL the money

Best luck to all

Default REASONABLE PRICE

I would continue looking for MSRP on the internet, if your local dealer tries to jack up the price. There will be some cancellations of the preorders for a number of reasons aka, the stock market's recent slide, won't wait because of the delivery delay, etc.

Before you get gouged, get some other quotes and tell your local dealer you've got airline mileage points built up to be able to fly out-of-state to pick up and drive the car home. Could be true and a longish trip would make it easy to breakin the car in on the trip back.

The first dealer I went to wanted a $5000 non-refundable deposit, the dealer I settled on required only $1000 deposit and had the general sales manager sign a contract verifying that it was totally refundable. Hope that helps.

For the best price (MSRP) or less.. which may be very diff.. Keep calling around.. Perhaps even go out of town.. where close friends live or family reside. THAT is how i pre-ordered mine.. out of town where my parents live.. On 2/20/02 I preordered mine with 0 down at MSRP.. Ordered it exactly the way i wanted it.. Still want it!! CANT WAIT.. Hopefully taking possession of it by 3rd or 4th week in Sept..
I cant wait for the 10 hour drive back to where i live..

I'm gonna get a little flamed for this, but here goes.

In our thirst for a car that we really, really want, we seem to forget a little practicality and logical thinking. For those of you that say "MSRP is the only fair deal" you're fooling yourselves. A dealer that sells a car at MSRP is making a several thousand dollar profit off of you. That's unbelievable! On any car that's not in high demand, you should generally not pay more than a couple hundred bucks more than the dealer paid for the car, which is WAY less than MSRP.

Now I know this isn't the case with the 350Z, but I just wanted to point out that we're still getting ripped off for paying MSRP. I am a little embarrassed to do it, but I really want this car. So my opinion is this. Don't pay a dime over MSRP, period. If you can't find it for that, go buy something else, that will give you a better deal for your money. A vette for a few g's under MSRP would be a nice alternative to a Z that's a few g's over.

Oh and don't get suckered into a non-refundable deposit! That's rediculous! I wouldn't trust a dealer who won't refund a deposit. That's bad news, go somewhere else!
