Any problems with higher mileage Z's?
Guys, I'm new to the forum. I don't have a Z yet, but I've been test driving them for the last week. Are there major problems with higher mileage automatic Z's? Around 80,000 miles? At what mileage are the major tune-ups? I have to buy an automatic, because my wife wants to drive it too. I'm especially worried about the transmission. Thank for any advice.

Bump. In for a response (same boat here for me!)

Tranny wise, there should be no problem with automatic.
Regarding the engine, it always depends how the previous owner took care of it, any car can last million miles if oil and everything is changed on time, cars not riped to hell and not crashed, get my drift? Best idea is to take the car to a local mechanic, someone you know perhaps and have him (notice i did say her;) haha) take a look at it. Good luck, and hopefully we will see you in the new owners forum some time soon :) |
Last owner beat the piss out of mine and cheaped out with everything. Since my ownership i've babied it and sit at around 61k miles. No problems yet, just a very picky transmission.

Contrary to most other car brands, the ATs in Zs are much, much more reliable and trouble-free than MTs. Weird, I know. About the 3.5L engine, it has been chosen as THE best engine in the automotive industry, thirteen years running! It's other little nuisances that have brought a dubious fame to our Zeds (i.e. the gas latch release thingy, the power window motors acting up, tire feathering, etc.) So, old buddy, "dive in, the water's fine" regarding our engines AND MTs!!!

A vehicle with 80,000 miles will cost you more to maintain than one with, say, 40,000 miles. That's just common sense.
|
Z's have come down in price so drastically, what is it about the 80k mileage mark that makes any Z more affordable? I can find 30-40k mileage 03's for like 12-15k, what would the 80k mileage ones run?
dont sell yourself short. I would get a Z with less miles since it should be pretty affordable. these engines are built to last 200k+ and there are plenty of owners with high mileage that are still running strong, but like david said .. |
If previous owners have performed normal maintenance & not beat the car, the Z will last a couple hundred thousand miles.
|
Guys, thanks for all the responses. I think I'll be patient and wait for something with lower miles. Thanks again.

Did you find a 350Z with less miles?
|
The 350Z is not for everyone. Sorry.
