Looking at this 350z, need your opinion.

Hi all, I'm looking at buying a 350z and want to get your guy's thoughts on it. I have been looking at one for roughly 1 1/2 years and just recently started to actually become more serious at getting one.

So anyway, it is an 03 model with almost 80k miles on it. It has a few mods including suspension, exhaust, rims, intake etc.

However, what I want to know is, do the 03s burn oil like the 06/05m (revup motor) did? Or did only some of them burned oil? If so, how should I check to see if it is or not when I'm there to check it out?

The guy is asking $9.5k but I plan on talking him down a bit.

Thank you.

EDIT: This is wording on the post.

"2003 Nissan 350Z with 2008 Nissan 350Z front end, 3.5 V6, 6 speed, upgraded suspension with strut stabilizer, Brembo braking system with slotted & cross drilled rotors, medalion exhaust front to back, power windows & locks, have plenum & throttle body spacers " remove for smog reasons", K&N filter, 20'' axis wheels, 245/35zR20" tires in front, 275/35ZR20 in rear, a/c & heater work great, sound system, apine deck w/amp, rockford fosgate 10" sub, runs & drives great.

Salvage title due to slight front end collision, air still good never deployed!!"

The mods look as though they lack quality. The 2003 didnt have oil consumption issues, but could have a very gridning tranny.

I would test drive the piss out of it. Also check the compression, it seems like he might have raced it. I personally never buy a car that is modded or was then brought back to stock. Odds are it was abused, also check the clutch for slipping.

EDIT: I would pass because it's salvage. You can find one with a clean title for that price.

travlee 07-09-2014 05:05 AM

slight front end collision would not cause a salvage title..... be like forest gump, and run forest run

Syner 07-09-2014 05:07 AM

:bowrofl:

beat me again.

That looks trashed. Also, a slight front end collision would not cause a salvage title...

Syner 07-09-2014 05:22 AM

never. i will forever be above you.

travlee 07-09-2014 05:31 AM

just because you live up north

Syner 07-09-2014 05:37 AM

hehe is funny, yes?

pyshin 07-09-2014 10:44 AM

Wow.

Why are you even considering this Z? $9.5 for a salvage-titled, horribly modded 2003 350Z is a joke.

I hope "sac" means Sacramento because the Z market in CA is saturated. Find a better option.

biscuitownz 07-09-2014 12:24 PM

Yeah, his choice of mods didn't appeal to me either. I'm going to check it out anyway just to see it. Thanks guys

And yes, I'm in the Sacramento area.

pyshin 07-09-2014 12:29 PM

Have fun wasting your time, kid.

Syner 07-09-2014 12:31 PM

...and money, if you buy it.

Thoughts on this?

I've found another Z that looks to be in good condition that is close to stock, except for being lowered with tein springs. Seller is asking 10k, kbb says it's valued at 8-8.5k for good/very good condition.

Although I have a quick question, is 121k miles too much for an 04? If not, how much is too much?

Anyway here's the wording on the listing

"I am selling my 04 Nissan 350Z. This car has been an awesome car and has given me very little trouble over the last 4 years. It has a 6 speed manual transmission. Never tracked or raced, and has always been garaged kept. The car is in excellent condition on both the outside and the inside. The biggest issue with this car is the leather on the steering wheel is peeling on the top (can be seen in the interior picture). This was happening when I got the car, and hasn't gotten much worse over the last 4 years. Everything else looks nearly new.

The car is pre-wired for an aftermarket sub-woofer, all you need to do is plug the sub and amp in. It also has a Nismo shift knob, and clear front reflectors. The car was tastefully lowered (just under an inch) by the previous owner with Tein S-Tech springs, and Hotchkis Sway bars have been installed. Its nothing major but makes the car feel a lot tighter and more nimble while driving.

If you want to know more about the car or want to come take a look at it, give me a call or text me at 916 Five Three Two xxxx Its hard to answer while I'm at work, so if I don't answer please leave a message. I'll get back to texts and voicemails as soon as I can.

Thanks for looking!"

biscuitownz 07-11-2014 05:26 PM

So I asked the guy if the clutch has been replaced or not and he said that the previous owner had replaced it before. The current owner bought the car about 25k miles ago.

EDIT: Transmission was flushed and had amsoil gear oil put in as well.

dcains 07-11-2014 05:43 PM

I think even $8K is too much for an '04 with that many miles, especially in Cali. Hard to tell much from those crappy pics, too. I'd keep looking, and find something with less miles, and I'm sure you can do better. You've got the right idea, though, looking at a car which is basically stock. Never buy the first one you see, and keep your emotions out of the equation.

Thank you for the tips. :)

I have basically exhausted every car source here in Sacramento and within a 75 mile radius haha.. I have been looking daily and only 2-3 appeared to be in good stock condition. Oh well, the search continues!

Thanks again

pyshin 07-11-2014 06:42 PM

No offense but 75 miles is nothing

I searched a month straight every day and drove from Vegas to Escondido (~300 miles) to pick up my Z and straight back to LA..

I know many people that have driven farther for a solid used vehicle; just keep searching and don't compromise, as I stated in your previous thread with that other garbage option.. The market in CA is saturated.

Good luck

An update on that garbage from last time. The guy let me test drive it 3rd gear grinded and the interior wasn't in the greatest shape. Asides from that everything looked fined. But I suspected frame damage on it since some of the body panels were not straight.

Hi again all, just want another opinion on this Z I found.

03 almost 116k miles, clean title.

Wording from post:

"2003 Nissan 350z Performance 6-speed Manual 116k mi. $9,000 OBO. MOTIVATED TO SELL. no low ball offers or trades

Very well maintained silver 350z Performance with 116k miles. Listing just a few of the many features. This car has been absolutely awesome for me but it's time for something a little larger and accommodating. Clean Title in hand ready to sell!

Features:
Power locks, mirrors, windows, AC, Xenon lights, cruise control, , ABS, traction control, leather seats, auto dimming rear view mirror, 6 speed Manual transmission, 6 speaker audio system, Z logo floor mats, cargo net in trunk, rear splash guards, owner's manual with maintenance records, smogged and registered.

Driver door window has been acting up. It is very common that the Z's need a motor replaced at some point. (Easy and inexpensive to do)

Upgrades:
-Jim Wolf Technology Pop Charger- Cold Air Intake
-Tanabe Hyper Medallion Cat-Back Exhaust
-Drilled Brake Rotors with Hawk brake pads
-Clear Corner reflectors
-Tinted windows- 5% on rear and 35% on driver and passenger window. Visibility is NOT impaired.
Professionally installed Pioneer touch screen head unit. DVD player with Bluetooth. - Plays Movies, Pandora, Netflixs. USB, Aux, AM/FM,CD.

$9,000 OBO No trades!"

I am pretty sure I can talk him down to 8.3k ~ because of the window problem. Also are those rims oem? I've never seen them before.

The engine bay does look a bit dusty, otherwise in good condition. At least it shows he isn't trying to hide anything.

Thanks again guys.

I've also noticed that the market for the Z is more saturated, but only if it's down in so-cal. The valley is not as saturated as you may think.
