Z32TT or 350Z for 3rd car toy?

I've been thinking of getting a 3rd car for several months now. I usually don't keep my 3rd cars very long (about a year) and don't put many miles on them. I'm thinking of either a Z32TT (always wanted one of these since 1990) or a 350Z. Budget is around 10K and I don't expect to go lower but probably more like $13-15K.

I realize all the old car upkeep items of getting a Z32TT but it is a car I've always wanted. Definitely would not drive the TT as much as a 350z due to age, reliability, etc. I see the 350z flirting with DD when weather is nice.

I've been on TT.net as well as here and searched through all of the archives regarding the comparison of these two cars. I'm not looking to add mods or have a money pit and I always have my eye on resale. Wouldn't want to but a high mile car or an abused car that would be hard to sell in a year or so.

Seems to me that a well cared for TT is more $$ than a 350z.

Anyone go through a similar situation and what did you decide? I'm also still learning about all the options and packages on the 350Z.

Thanks.

JK

I got a Miata as a 3rd car toy. Its almost time to sell it for something else. I had looked around for a z32tt but all the ones I've seen are complete buckets. I say get a 350z.

350Z. It is my understanding that the Z32 TT are very high maintenance and very finicky!

Beginning to lean towards the 350Z. More modern, less upkeep and could use it more often.

Now I just need to find one in the Philadelphia area. Not sure if I want one with a few mods or completely stock. Black would be my first choice and must be a MT.

SeaNile, I live about 15 minutes from you. If you end up with a 350z or z32TT, hit me up. It'd be cool to meet some other forum members.

I should also add I've had an '85 300zx, a '90, and a 2006 350z. The z32 is definitely a money pit. Would not recommend unless you have space to do your own repairs.

350z.. i would only consider a z32TT if its cherry and low mileage.. but i doubt you'll find one in your budget.
it's funny because I saw a 1990 with only 17000 miles for about 19k on craigslist somewhere..

This for sure LOL, get a 350z,boost it and you'll never look at a Z32 the same way again!

I would go with the 350z, a while ago, a friend of mine was desperate for money, he sold me his '96 300ZX TT which was in excellent condition with only 30,xxx miles, at the time I had already owned an '04 350z(stock) for several years, I preferred the 350z over the 300ZX in every aspect, he eventually bought his Z32 back from me, you can find a nice 350z or 300ZX for your price range though it may be harder to find a nice Z32 nowadays, I'd still go with the 350z or a 240z, I really want a 240z.

If you're going up to the 13-15k range you can just buy a turbo 350z already done. The 300zxtt is wayy overpriced imo.

This question came up on another forum I am on. I guy "desperately" wanted a Z32TT and asked for opinions.
My response was "How mechanical are you? Are you capable of doing all the maintenance and upkeep a TT requires? If not and you'll have to take it to a mechanic or dealer, be prepared to spend a LOT of money!"
He decided against it.
My advice to you is the same.
Good luck!
