Overpricing my 03 350z Touring MT?
 

Hey all, I'm selling my 03 350z Touring MT w/ 78,000 miles. Asking $8900. Car is in great interior/exterior condition, single owner, bone stock except for Nismo exhaust, clean title, never been in an accident.

I think there are a few 03 and 04 models in my state in similar condition, mileage, and spec that are asking about $8500-$10000. Nationally, I think there's maybe 10 or 12 that meet similar criteria based on model year. A dealer has offered me $6400 in trade-in, so obviously I expect to fetch more than that in private sale.

Questions: Are the early model year 350z undesirable? What are your thoughts on pricing these? Most of the early year 350z for sale in my state (FL) are absolute train wrecks (Pepboy's mods everywhere, rust, salvage title, etc) and asking $4000-6000.

Every geographical area is going to have different used car pricing. Other factors may come into play, such as color and condition of pain, as well as any option packages. You've also posted a thread asking for advice on a "terrible noise" coming from your Z, did that ever get fixed/resolved?

Yes, turned out the AC compressor had failed and it was producing that noise when the AC was on.

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If no offers at $8900, drop the price a bit.

True. Depending on how you intend to sell it, get plenty of pictures and present the car in the best way possible. If no calls at that price, you know you're high on the asking price.

In the end it's a 14 year old car that hasn't held it's value much. I see ones selling around here(run/drive/probably inspect-able) for as low as 2500-3000, but mostly around the 4-5k range.

You'll have to wait until you find someone who wants a low mileage one.

Tell that to the kids in my area. Anything not crap is $7k+.

Leave it there for a few months. Drop accordingly.

It's Christmas season, no one is buying cars for themselves this time of year.

Besides that, $8900 for the stated specs is about what they're asking here but takes a selective buyer willing to pay that. An adult buyer will come along, don't worry, just takes time. You may want to expand your market reach through places like cars.com or autotrader or.... somewhere that a serious buyer will be looking and willing to make the drive (or pay the shipping) for the RIGHT CAR.

The rpice is what a buyer will pay. I would say over price it a bit because used cars are one of the things that people automatically assume you have to bargain to make the sale. Some people won't buy from you if you don't move on the price a bit no mater how low your starting price. That's just the rules of the game.

A buyer who sees the value for the condition you describe has yet to come along and act.

A "Trade In" of $6,400 was not overly insulting for a 14-15 year old car.

I personally see the value you placed on your car.

It will be just a matter of time before an actual buyer sees it too.
