Just got my first Zaino out of the way, have one of these from a previous car. As clean as the car is it collects dust quickly (which is easily wiped away of course). Do these scratch your paint at all? I would imagine that after a while they trap the dirt in the fibers, no? Thanks.

The dirtier they are the better they work. I have 2 of them, one for my Z and one for the Maxima. Best duster out there. Just shake after every wipe and you'll be okay!

Not only is it okay - it's highly recommended. The California Duster is pretty popular here!

The only trick is to not sweep it across the surface. Do as the instructions say and lightly "pat" the surface with the ends of the strands.

+1 .. love mine :)

+2, works great on SB, just use gently and let the static electricity do most of the work.

i heard these come with wax already in the duster? Is that true?

Yes, but you are supposed to let it dry on newspapper for 48 hours, and then use it...dries out most of the wax.

Reggi914 Jun 16, 2005 12:15 PM

and the wax is carnuba wax?

35oZephyR Jun 16, 2005 01:08 PM

These work great!

I use the Cali duster with a combination of a detailer spray and the car looks clean all week.

JP_WRX Jun 16, 2005 03:47 PM

Confirmed. Cleaned it right up, was just worried about scratching, but after doing some research the wax keeps it from doing that. Grab one if you don't have it!

This thing is wicked. It's the only thing in my trunk :) I'm living in a new development area, so it's ultra dusty over here...and this thing does wonders for my car (and my back from not having to wash my car everyday :P)

not carnuba - I think its the wax use to soak their hands in(forget what that is)...the wax is there to help the dust cling...not for any shine value..but CCD is a solid investment...

It's treated with paraffin:

"Because of a special permanently baked in paraffin treatment, The Original California Dusters are made to provide years of effective service without the need for cleaning. Simply shake them out before and after each use. The "dirtier" they get the better they work. "

Crap... I think I threw mine into the washing machine awhile back. :icon43:

zcombat Jun 23, 2005 02:24 PM

I also have one and it works great for light dusting. I've been using these for more about 5+ years. I had one before, that i washed and it never really worked as good as before. The dust just won't stick to it as good. So i threw it away and got another one. I've been using it for more than a year now and still works wonderful.

Washing is okay if it's done correctly. From the CaliDuster FAQ:

If you find it necessary to clean your Duster because it is too dirty or if the Duster stops lifting dust, it can be washed. You may hand wash your Duster in cold water with a mild detergent such as Woolite, then air dry. Do not use hot water to wash or hot air to dry, as heat or harsh detergent may remove the special paraffin treatment.

I guess mines is going in the trash then. No wonder it's not as great as it was when I first got it.

Time for a new one!

Thanks for the info dave.

Just about anywhere. If you're looking for one of the high-end models with wood handle, your best bet is one of the online auto detailing suppliers like PremiumAutoCare.com, ProperAutoCare.com or Autogeek.com.

I got my cheap-o one with the plastic handle from Wal-mart. They're about half the price of the wood ones. You can probably find them at AutoZone, PepBoys too.
