How do you guys clean your headlight?

I have terrible grime on my headlights. When they are wet they look flawless but once they dry it look terrible. sorta like calcium build up. How can I get this off? Any suggestions?

2500 grit with a spray bottle of soapy water followed by a buffer/polisher

Meguire's plastic cleaner works great. This was the result on a 10 year old car.

I use a different Maguires product, they also offer a plastic cleaner and a plastic polish. They do a great job too!

I claybar mine, and that gets all the bug carasses off. Then I wax them. I also try not to follow anyone too closely anymore.

Just got mine recently from Kragen. Was looking for it sometime ago since i have one headlight with some fogging/scratches and had the same problem, none of the stores i went to had it. Then i stopped into Kragen one day(odd since they are the closest auto part store to me) and it was right at the bottom next to metal polish(had to get some too just in case).

I swear I need to stop going into auto parts stores since I always buy more than I need.

wax is your bestfriend, buddy...

I also use Plastic X, and I was lucky to find in at Advance Auto.

wax and polish dont do nothing. honestly and i know it sounds nasty but i put some saliva on it and rubbed it with my finger. it actually started to come off. not all of it but some. anyways im still going to order some plastic x.

wet sand and polish, works best imo.

when I took my old overlays off after having them on for a while, it left a real tough sticky residue kinda like what you have. I bought Meguiar's Clear Plastic Polish and some Plexus at the Sail and Ski off the frontage of 183 N. The more times you apply and buff w/the polish the better it looks. Then finish it off w/ Plexus spray and they look brand new. Goodluck :thumbup2:

Come over and do it for me. thanks!!! lol. i didnt know you took the overlays off. hey call me sometime cuz im thinking of taking the car to ACustoms to paint my body kit and my bumper like they did yours. 210///215//7544

Is Plastic X a polish or a cleaner? I want to get a cleaner and a Polish.

Also wouldnt wet sanding take away your clear coat and UV protection? Which would make the headlamp scratch very easy.

Also try to find Aerospace 303 cleaner / protectant. It's used for plastics and vinyl in marine applications. I personally haven't used it yet, but my Dad has for years on his 4Runner's lights, and he swears by it. Check out Overton's catalog or online.

Both of my headlights had a streak of what looked like etching. I used Blue Corral metal polish from Pep Boys then waxed. Now they are crystal clear better than new.
