Spilled gas on car, ruined paint?!?!

I was just at the gas station and I spilled a bunch of vpower premium on my lemans colored 350z. I had to let it sit on there for like a minute before I could find something to wipe it off with too. I think it ruined the paint. You can see the spill marks. I've tried washing, waxing, everything! It's not coming off! Help!

**** I woulda used my shirt and hands before I let it sit on there :D Sorry to hear about that though, is it on the bumper too or just the quarter?

maybe it will come off with a wet sand or something, I'm sure someone will chime in soon

Did you seriously just let it sit on there? Try claybar...

Some idiot overfilled my tank on my wrx and it was spilling for a good 3-5 seconds before I realized and jumped out. I was about to drop the guy but knew it wasn't his fault. He set it on auto and went to help someone else. I just used the towels that were on the pump to clean it off then went home and washed my car again to make sure. Nothing ever happened to the paint. You shouldn't have let it sit there. As stated above you shoulda used your shirt.

A very light abrasive cleaner might work - I use 3M Swirl Remover and it gets rid of a lot of blemishes/scratches without damaging the clear coat.

It may have simply removed your wax, once you have the car detailed and waxed it may dissapear

i had this happened to me few months ago. My dumbass want to round up the dollar amount to make it even, so i spill it out a little bit. Wiped it off with some paper towel they have there. Clean it off with some spray on wax later. I been washing the car like normal afterward and don't notice it there anymore.

Just keep washing and waxing ur car and you'll be fine.

I spilled once as well, paint didn't get messed up.

I doubt it harmed your paint. Wash the car.

jray8 04-13-2009 02:43 PM

op carry please start carrying those blue "shop towels" in your Z. this happened to me once, grabbed the towel and "spit-shined" the spot, no problems :)

Has happened to me. Left it on for a long time not knowing. Like days. It comes out without any signs if you use Goo Gone. (It was very very cold here during that time tho.

Wow - is Nissan paint THAT bad? Anyway, I'm sure it'll buff right out.

Adrians07Z 04-13-2009 02:48 PM

if it damaged the clear any and washing or waxing doesnt fix it ..

take a buffer to it .. try just a machine polish first (3M step two) .. if that doesnt get it out (IT SHOULD) .. then use a compound then a machine polish

gas wont damage a paint job, just might haze the clear a little

the Z's paint is TERRIBLE!

I like to keep a bottle of quick detailer and a microfiber cloth in the car just for times like this.

+1

Use it in-between washes for the occasional bird droppings, too.

davidv 04-13-2009 04:56 PM

Probably have to have the car repainted. Of course just one side.

:icon18::icon18::icon18::icon18:

I hope that was a joke ..

Ive taken 600 grit sandpaper and laquer thinner to brand new 2009 dodge challengers to fix the delivery guys "mistakes" ..
(I'm a Painter at a Dodge Dealership)

why would gas ruin a paint job? .. at worst it just hazed over the clear

as for the Z having terrible paint .. dodge and hyundai have to be the worst
