what does salt do to a Zaino'd car?

i was forced to drive my car in the snow..and now its covered in a salty film...i had been washing and waxing every weekend prior to snowfall

can salt damage the car just sitting there?

ares Dec 8, 2003 08:42 PM

Im afraid its totalled. :icon14:

Id rinse it off occasionally, the zaino should give you a buffer, but salt is pretty harsh, and could possibly cause exposed metal to rust(tho much of the car is aluminum and plastic which cant rust) still better to have it off Id think.

the sight of it makes me cringe...i even refrained from wiping off the snow too much to avoid any scratches...but when i got out of my car after the drive..i was very depressed,,i cant wait to hose it down

Man, every time I think it sucks to live in CA (taxes, gas prices, disasters, etc), posts like this remind me that its not so bad. :D

havabooz Dec 8, 2003 09:18 PM

taxes and gas prices are almost equally unpleasant

ares Dec 8, 2003 09:19 PM

heh, there are other places in the country with no snow, along with low taxes, cheap gas, and 0 disasters besides the occasional tornado or hurricane.

but minus the salt, I wish we had some snow here.

I occasionally hose off the underside of the cars that I drive in winter. There are a number of unpainted metal parts under most cars that will corrode faster when covered with road salt.

I was going to wash my car but its supposed to rain the next couple of days here, so just park it outside!

It will not hurt the paint for the salt to sit on it until you get a chance to had wash it. However, if your wheels are bare metal the salt will etch bare aluminum.

bare aluminum like the suspension parts under the car all covered in salt? ugh I'm glad my car is locked away in the garage.

Kevin Overall Dec 9, 2003 10:07 AM

Suspenion parts are not really polished, salt will not really hurt them but on highly polished wheels I have seen salt cut into the polished surface and dull it out pretty good.

LOL! That's cause its white right now covered in salt! After I got keyed and had my front bumper indented with a license plate mark, I try to wedge it into corner spots as best possible.
