Seeking advice on removing excess 3m bonding adhesive
So I recently used some 3m automotive strong bonding adhesive to put inside the crack where my bumper and front lip meet to help hold it in place and fill up the little gaps. Unfortunately I thought I could wipe off the excess goo before it dried... but it instantly started drying. Basically I was wondering if anyone has any ideas how to get the excess glue off without taking off the glue in the cracks... I have goo gone but if I put that on it, it will take all of the adhesive off because you have to let goo gone sit a while before wiping it off (I tried to put some on a cloth and wipe it off but it didnt work). Thanks in advanced to anyone who replies :)

What kind of bonding adhesive did you use?
Do you have a 3-M product number? 3-M makes a general adhesive remover.Auto paint supply shops handle. It comes in a pint can. Basically,it emulsifies the adhesive. Its a slow process. Wet a cloth or sponge with the liquid.Let it soak in. Use a wooden or plastic part to lift off the old adhesive in layers. I've used a single edge razor blade to help peel off the layers. This product will not damage the paint. After you get the old gunk down to some light residue, finish with 90% rubbing alcohol. |
its 3M Plastic Emblem and Trim Adhesive.
3601 is the number, mine did not come with that white cap though wtf :O would have made it easier and not so much excess gunk |

dont you have to let that stuff sit after you spray it on?? it dries super fast when u spray it onto a cloth.. just like my goo gone did.

So I stopped at a couple body shops today about this... and they told me I wont be able to remove it with any type of product without hurting the paint. The only solution would be to sand and repaint it... one shop quoted me at $350 and the other $900. The $900 one said they would have to repaint the entire bumper and that is why it would cost that much. The $350 said they would only have to clear coat the entire bumper. This is going to be an expensive mistake :(.
I also have my sideskirts here and they want $200 each side painted if there is no prep work or fitting. Sigh. So I'm going to have to almost pay $1000 for paint work. How much is it to get an entire car painted? edit: attached a pic for you guys to see, it's kind of blurry. http://i45.tinypic.com/11kzc3n.jpg |
