Got a 12 second timeslip NA!!

Finally got my timeslip scanned. Friday night I took the 350 to San Antonio Raceway. This was only my 3rd time at the strip with this car. Track was very busy and I only got 4 runs in all night long, but on my second run I broke into the 12's!! I ran a 12.9@106 and damn I was happy. It took me forever to get my Z32 in the 12's so I was happy to achieve that goal after only 3 nights racing the 350.

This car was pretty quick when I bought it as it was already modded, but with the help of Kuah at SPLParts.com we've made a few well thought out changes and shaved .6 seconds the past 2 outings. I believe the car can run even faster in it's current state as my 1/8mph is down just over 2mph from my previous run of 13.17. Ambient temps were higher this time and it was fairly humid also. I wasn't racing into a 15-20 mph headwind this time though and my 1/4 mph reflects this with a jump from 103 to 106mph.
On my first run I missed 3rd gear so I think I was shifting a tad slower after that to ensure I hit every gear.
Last week we replaced the cats with test pipes and replaced the topspeed exhaust with a prototype 5Zigen ProRacer A-spec single exit exhaust. The exhaust swap shaved an easy 15-20 lbs off the car. Other than for aesthetics it doesn't make sense to have a dual exhaust after it's merged with a Y-pipe.
With a colder night and a good launch I hope to be able to shave a few more tenth's off, but time will tell.
My thanks go out to Kuah at SPL for his sound advice and helping me achieve my goal of a 12 second timeslip in normilly aspirated form!
More detail on the car and mods thus far can be found here .

How many other non turbo/blown/nitrous 350's have run in the 12's? I've checked a few of the forums and have found a 13.0 car, but haven't noticed a 12.x yet.

And yes, that is a horrible reaction time, i know!

I now have the old Injen CAI and Topspeed Pro-1 exhaust for sale. PM me if anyone's interested.

woah...was this on stock tires, or drag slicks or something? 12's is awesome for n/a!

sfarrah 12-05-2004 09:49 PM

Mickey Thompson ET Streets mounted on z32 16x8.5 rear wheels.

Congrats, AFAIK that's a landmark for naturally aspirated drag run in the Z!

Jason@Performance 12-05-2004 11:59 PM

those wheels with less rotational weight and grabby tires did it...

nice one :)

jreiter 12-06-2004 01:17 AM

Wowsers, it's amazing what a set of drag radials can accomplish!

Wait a minute, the time slip says you red-lighted. In fact, all your timeslips (from SPLParts) show the same thing. What's up with that?

mdacko 12-06-2004 04:14 AM

youre my inspiration to waste more $$ on n/a mods :)

It just means he is not paying attention to the lights, who cares the times still count.

Congrats on the the first n/a 12's! There are many, many 12 second turbo cars out there. Here is just a tiny sampling. Most of those guys were on street tires as well. Not taking away from your acomplishment.

Congrats.

Zexy 12-06-2004 05:48 AM

Wow, look at those 60 ft times!! Very impressive.

sfarrah 12-06-2004 07:16 AM

Thanks guys for the compliments. As for my r/t, unless i'm at an actual heads up event I don't pay much attention to the tree. Test and tune night i'm just racing for my timeslip. I get to the rpm i want to launch at and I go. I should be practicing my r/t but my goal was a 12 second timeslip and I haven't really cared what the other guy was running.

And just to clarify (jreiter) the ET streets are dot approved for the street but I am not using the radial version that Mickey Thompson offers. I have been told by users of both tires that they have very comparable performance at the drag strip.

Nice run! Next time you head out there post up. I am from SA and its worth a trip down there to hit the strip.

sfarrah 12-06-2004 07:25 AM

If the weather cooperates there's an import event i'll be attending this friday the 10th. Come on down!

bascelik 12-06-2004 10:55 AM

Now just add EVO3.9 and some drag radials to your setup and you're good for another half a sec :)...

speedy_k 12-06-2004 10:56 AM

Your correct E.T. time should be "12.9824-0.0001+0.5" = 13.4823 assuming you did not red light and you got a perfect 0.5 second reaction time. If red light did not count, then you could launch the car 10 second before the red light and then claimed your car is in 3.x seconds. But I have to say, you got very good 60 feet time and it is a very good E.T. for a minimum mod 350 Z.

sfarrah 12-06-2004 11:01 AM

Uhm, no. My et is correct as stated on the timeslip. ET doesn't begin untill you trip the beam, regardless of my reaction time.

speedy_k 12-06-2004 11:08 AM

All red lighted e.t. does not count. You have to show me a time slip which is not red lighted. No body published and claimed a red lighted e.t., may be except you.
