i recently have realized i am going to have big problems hooking at the track especially when on the juice.

my soultion seems to be a good set of dr's but im trying to use my 18 stock 03 rims. (i know bad idea but its all i have to work with for right now).

iam having problems finding a set that will fit the 8.5 rear rims cause bfg drag radials only come in a 275,35,18 which isnt recomended for that size rim. i have searched the web and found info on mickey thompson et street radials in 265,40,18 which seems to be a great fit but the only problem is all i found was info.

does anyone know where i can purchase a set of these

you arent likely to find anything really worth using in that diameter. you will either end up with a super tall tire or no sidewall. just keep on the lookout for a cheap set of wheels. maybe look into a set of z32tt rears

nothing there that is rated to fit on the stock 18inch rim or am i missing something?

I have seen many people put a 275 on an 8 or 8.5" wheel. 9" is the quoted minimum, but it has been done successfully. Ask any autocrosser.

i have seen it done to but usually there is a little more sidewall involved then there is in this situation that is the part that bothers me about trying it, especially if i drop the tire pressure some to try and get better grip out of them.

Davidv, if you're asking me, I didn't get anything. My short time is around 2.0-2.1 on average on street tires - still the same, just not as consistent as I used to be due to lack of practice.

the 275 is fine on the 18 inch rim if the OP has not gotten them. I have seen 315 DRs on an 8 x17.... now that is stretching it.

Is that even helpful at that point? I was contemplating whether or not I should get 295s for my stock 18"x8", but damn.

/\ maybe not to the OP but for others I was going to make a thread about this but I guess I'll just add to this one. Anyone else mounted a 275 or higher on an 18x8 wheels? My other option is to just mount a 245 but not sure if that is enough to handle mid to high 300whp.

But thats in the manufacturer's safety range. Most 15" will not have a problem with 275 since 275 has a range of 7.5'' - 9.5'' for the 15" wheels.

I did not know that...then what range would a 275 have for an 18" wheel?

After researching you are absolutely correct.....In order to use a 275 on a 18" wheel it is recommended to use a 9"-11" width

How detrimental would it really be to mount a tire on a wheel that is smaller than the recommended width for the tire?

I'm sure the grip and the top end would suffer, the tire would probably wear out unnaturally.. safety-wise, I don't think there'd be a problem, no?

If the width of the tire stays the same and the rear wheel gets narrower, the car will sway more... especially if you run lower air pressures.

If the width of the tire stays the same and the sidewall gets thinner, the width of the wheel will/should increase.

i had a set of 245/45/18 bfg drag radials about 1 year ago, i dont know if they just stoped making them in that size or something. but the drag radial in your pic is a mickey thompson et street. check ebay i have found are size on there.
