For AT's, How do you launch?
What RPMS do you AT's hold it at before you release the brake? or do u not brake when you launch?? Please post your times and what RPM you held it at....thanks guys!
Ben |
haven't been to the track but when racing off the line, i hold the rpms at 2.5k.
|
any wheel spin when you launch at 2.5k?? i am gunna test it out when i get home....see which rpm is the best for stock tires and and which rpm is the best....i will let u all know including the current weather outside....
Ben |
yea, i get some wheelspin launching at 2.5k

I'm just interested why you bought a z, a pure performance vehicle, and you opted for an auto tranny? Are you nuts?
|
nah i am not nuts i got a great deal on it 28k touring full loaded nav aero package....and it only had 3k miles on it.... hard to pass up....

I turn 14.1 - 14.2 consistantly in the 1/4 with stock tires that have severe wheelspin through all of first and part way through second. this is when it bas totally stock and starting from an idle. Trap speed usually 99mph. I expect 13's now with stickier tires and some minor mods. Been too wet here to run. |
yeah i got mine cause i found such a great price....i ran a 14 flat on my geforce timer.....but still haven't reached the track yet....
Ben |
can anyone give some more advice on launch RPM ranges? what were your times and where did you launch from??
Ben |
i run an auto and launching on the street and on the track i have found are totally different. you can sort of get a feel for the launch on the street, but the track asphault is different, and you cant have the windows down to hear what is going on, its really hit and miss, i use 2500rpm brake stand and run 60 foot at around 2.09 on 32psi rear. the trick is to avoid the water pit, and if you cannot, make sure you complete your burnout on a dry portion, i ran my fastest 1/8 time with no burnout at all,(9.19 @ 77.49mph) beating a pretty well modded wrx. the other 2 times i forgot to clean off my tires on dry asphalut. oh yea, turn the traction control off. forgot to do that once too. hope this helps, try to practice launching on flats, although usually do them on onramps late at night to avoid getting pulled over. hope this helps.

autos are preferred for drag strip racing. they are consistent, and when built right do not burn through parts like clutches. they also cost much less to build, but on an autox or track its mt all the way.
btw i got a 6-speed but i know a lot of FAST auto drag racers |
amen to that, everyone with a stick was bitching about how they missed second, or mishifted, or couldent launch correctly. they all made fun of my auto, but then were trounced by me when race time came. how sweet it is.
PS i am by no means saying that stick sucks. i wish i could have gotten the car in a stick, but driving in traffic everyday auto made more sense. |

I'm still losing traction, so I think there is 13's in my future. |
well i finally got to the track....i will see if i can post my time slips but i did pretty good, i got a 14.1-14.3 all night,
here is one of my timeslips R/T .577 60' 2.162 330 6.042 1/8 9.199 MPH 76.86 1000 11.922 1/4 14.187 MPH 100.32 i was pretty satisfied with my results saying i was running really really bad stock tires, mine are almost bald due to burnouts and donuts....but...i should be throwing some new tread on there gforce twa BFgoodys :) Ben |
Question on launching. wouldn't it better to launch without wheelspin? With wheelspin you're probably losing ". something something seconds?" Just curious because I have not been to the track. From my experience on the street i find myself ahead quicker then those who spin their wheels for those ". something something seconds."
the only logic i see is that even though they lose time on the spin they have more power in the upper rpm's to cover the loss and catch up? |
yeah wheelspin does affect you alot, i raced my friend supercharged 350z and all he did was spin, he couldn't gain traction at all through 1st and second, but once he hit half way through second he got grip and he was gone, it was a good run though, he just needs better tires.

wheelspin is actually good, so long as its done in moderation. since when they do hook you already have all that momentum built up makes you go. my best times have always been launches with a little burnout

wait a second....so u guys spin your tires when you are staged ready to go?? or what? i dont get it? cause i would think that if you were to have your tires spinning before you launch that it would definatley give u a false start i dunno i guess i will have to try it sometime if this is what u guys mean...
