the Z's first time at the track.
well i took her to the strip today at Rockingham, NC. its been 2 years since ive taken a manual tranny down the strip, and about 4 years since i drove a rear wheel drive car at the strip. today was also the first day ive tried launching the Z hard...so i definately need to practice on my 60'. but it didnt help that the track sucked though, everyone was spinning hard. the car had full interior, including spare, tire pressure was at 35 psi. i got 9 runs in, so i wont go over every one, but the first one i pulled in a
R/T-------------.344 60'-------------2.208 330'-----------6.057 1/8------------9.201 MPH-----------79.50 1000----------.000 (dunno what happened with that) 1/4------------14.123 MPH-----------100.46 i got plenty of 14.1(two with my g/f in the car), and a few 14.2...worse of the day(with me in the car) was a 14.3 @ 98 with a 2.34 60'...i fell asleep at the light and kind of rolled out of the beam. but my best of the day was as followed...still a shitty 60' though. R/T-------------.479 60'-------------2.233 330'-----------6.076 1/8------------9.176 MPH-----------80.31 1000----------11.825 1/4------------14.056 MPH-----------101.00 my goal was a 13.9 @ 102 or so...so i guess im happy with my first time trying to run the car hard on the strip. the 14.0 was my second run. hopefully i can get launching down soon and be able to pull some 13.8-13.9 with a 2.0 60'. it was also mid 70s today and very humid...13s should be easy under better weather/track conditions. |
great job for your first time @ the track! You're definitely due for 13s next time!
|
Get a 2.0-2.1 60', and your well into the high 13's.:)
I launch mine at around 3K rpm. You'll get it with practice. |
In his defense, the track was horrible that day. Everyone was down on ET. At the end of the day he let me drive his Z to see if I could get it into the 13s. Well this is the first time I have ever driven a Z before and needless to say it was pretty comical.
Another VQ35 Maxima owner came over to me while I was in the lanes and says " Don't go by the stock Tach, it lies..." That said, I stage the car but the car started rolling through the pre-stage beam and I was afraid it was going to redlight. So I was about to put the car in reverse and back it back into the beam but the car in the other lane had the same problem and rolled through the prestage beam. So now only the Stage beam was lit for both cars and the tree operator set the tree in motion. I was already in reverse though so I had to take it out of reverse, put it back in 1st and I tried to launch at 2500 and slip the clutch but the engine makes power so smoothly that I didn't even realize the car was spinning. It felt like it hooked so I went WOT and I hit the rev limiter in every single gear, LOL! Needless to say I produced a whopping 2.9 60' and a 14.9@100mph. If I didn't hit the rev limiter in every gear I probably would have gotten the 102 trap in RedShft's car :icon18: :icon17: RedShft, we should go to Fayetville next time. Atleast that track has some kind of grip. The Rock is HORRIBLE. |
That is a good time, what mods do you have on your car?

The Rock is HORRIBLE. but you prolly would have trapped 102 if you got a decent launch. hell your what? 100 lbs lighter than me :p LaidBackRacr...my car is COMPLETELY stock, including the 235 Bridgestone Potenza's on the rear. car still has 30 day tags on it. :D |
Don't hit the limiter, it will hurt your time.
Shift just before it. I set my shift light for 6,900, and shift right when the light comes on, just avoiding the limiter. |

haha...i told you man, dont let it rev past 6500. it doesnt rev to 30,000rpm like that joke of a motor they call a rotary you have.:p

Hondas...BAH, family cars. 2 seaters for life

redshift... just curious, what model z you have and if you took the spare out?
I have a base (lightest @ 3188) and want to get it close to 3000 lbs. for the track. I'll lose the spare, jack, floormats, ect. I wonder how much it would help? |
ive also got a Base model. but it had FULL interior, including spare, all the tools, floormats, and even my heavy *** Choko jacket that weighs like 300 lbs. i thought about taking the spare and rear carpets out, but then thats just taking needed weight off the rear axle and will cause more wheel spinnage. youll prolly have worse 60' but a higher trap.

hmm. cool. thanks for that info.

Sorry for the Newb question but how do you launch a manual? Rev to 3k then release the clutch quickly?
|

I am do for 13.4's and .5's if I can launch a bit better. How do you like it? How's the sound? Is it loud? Quiet? Did you notice any increase in power? Reason I ask is because I'm looking for a quiet exhaust ( I hate the way a 2 rotor sounds with a opened up exhaust) for my FD RX-7 and RS*R advertises that they have a very quiet exhaust. Please tell me what you do or don't like about the RS*R. Thanks :) |
