Tires for Drift use?

i am currently running

wesport SA-70

18 x 8 Kumho ecsta 245/40/18
18 x 10 kumho ecsta 275/40/18

im down with no treads on the rears... whats a good tires to get for both fronts and rear according to my rim sizes?

na? fi? power also matters, more power you have the stickier tires you want, less power almost any cheap tire would work

Your tire sizes look alright, probably stick to something close to that. Maybe less width in the rear if you have trouble keeping it sideways.

How well can you drift? If you're just starting, go with some cheap Federals. If you're good, get some good rubber.

There are a lot of tires out there that aren't suitable for drifitng. I've tried a lot. Some chunk bad and others completely lose grip as soon as they get hot.

The D1GP lists tires authorized for competition. These would be a good to try. Link

i just use, bolded stock tire :D

Give these a try. Federal SS595, can't go wrong at $97 a pop. Don't have them on my Z but I bought a set to try out on my AE86. Super cheap and very grippy. And apparently a few of D1 teams are running them in the rear now.

275/40R17 98V - $97.00 - I'm pretty sure they have 18's as well but this is the size I used to run all around for my track tires.

Maxxis makes a nice drift tire too.

Definitely the best drift tire i have ever run on, and i am not just saying that. we have never chunked a pair ever. and they last longer than most tires and stay consistent until they are completely out of tread.

Right on...I will be running a set for our Nopi qualifier out here next month.

Thanks for the review.

Topic from the dead, but I'll through in my experience.

Top Drift Worthy Tires I've ran and loved:
1 - Maxxis MA-Z1
2 - Dunlop Direzza DZ101
3 - Federal 595SS
4 - Falken RT-615

However, in the fashion of 18's being the size of choice for 350Z/G35, DO NOT use the Federal tires! The 595SS in 18 inch sizes run a different compound (ZR not just R) and chunk big time. 15, 16 and 17 inch sizes you're golden as long as it's not the Z rated tires. However, in my experience, I love the Maxxis. They smoke more than the Federals, last almost twice as long (and the Federals last forever), and have TONS more grip over the 595SS. The RT615 by Falken offer a little more grip and smoke, but also cost quite a bit more compared to the Federals and Maxxis.

Later,

Jay

i used a set of kdw2's once and i liked em alot, but they can get pricey

theianmcdougall 01-04-2010 05:50 PM

run federals!!!!

everyone i know uses them, they may not be the best but they are awesome for the price and work awesome IMO

i would go 225 front and 245 rear on those sizes

personally i believe wide rims + stretched tires help alot

Federals were kinda meh when I ran them. (can't remember the compound, but i remember the inside edges chunking, but I was probably running to much camber)
Bridgestone RE050A's are fantastic except they chunk a bit to quickly.
Wanli S1088's were fantastic grip, smoke, and life, (and cheap too at $58 for a 245/45R18)
Nexen 3000.... I would rather not drive then ever use them again. Awful tires. EXTREMELY greasy.
Pirelli Pzero's are nice, but the tread separates fairly quickly on them.
I also really enjoyed Starspec's and KDW's, good life, good smoke, great feel.

I haven't tried any Maxxis offerings yet.

what of these?

anyone ever used them before?

It's what came on my Z last year when i bought them. Only drifted them 2 days this summer (at the track =D) and they held up good.
