Luke: Tires and lateral G's

Please excuse my naitivity, but will changing the stock tires to SO3's make a difference in lateral G's? If so, what would your guess be? The stock tires can pull .88, what about the SO3's?

Thanks and Happy Hollidays!

I bet that it would, although I have no proof. I saw in Road and track that the G35 coupe handled much better than the 350Z on the skidpad and through the slalom with Michelin pilot's.

sport compact car got .98g from toyo proxes 255/40-17 and ground control coil overs. Im not so sure that the coil overs were as big an improvement as the tires, as the stock suspension is very tight. Im gonna take a shot in the dark and say .95g's for good tires...

Do they make proxies that will fit the 18 inch wheels. If so let me know which sizes to get and I'll order them ASAP.

I havent seen much in the way of toyos for availability..but looking around this forum I noticed that bridgestone pole position S03s are a favorite. Im pretty sure that these tires will kick ass and I am just waiting for the first signs of wear on my stock tires so I can run out and buy some S03s!!!

Sport Compact Car also lowered the Z a bit (not on purpose, but simply because of their suspension changes), which added some negative camber to the wheels. I bet that helped improve the cornerning somewhat, but I don't know by how much.

I think that different tires would help, but I don't know by how much. I would think that you could get to maybe .9-.92 G's with better street tires. Race tires (which I think is what SCC used) would increase that by a bit more.

Just estimating though, don't have any real data to back that up.

Also, MT or R&T or maybe Automobile (can't remember which) got .92G for the Z with stock tires in one direction and .90G in the other. Most of the other mags seemed to get around .88G.
