We are all learning together actually and you actually know quite alot about the VTC operations... I might be wrong at some points, I only know the things that I have done to my car so far, that's why I always need to ask a lot of questions on the board or nag "Nathan" via phone call to learn more about what I don't know... I think the meaning of pre-set that you are talking about is relating to the maximum degree of angle that the VTCs can be operated, so that means the nismo vtc has 10 more degrees to play with compare to the stock vtc unit... and as I know, '03, '04 and the '05 engines (besides 35th) have ONLY intake vtc, the exhaust pulleys are driven by the intake VTCs... and only the 35th and the '06 engines have both intake and exhaust VTCs (they call Double Vanos in BMW engines), that means they can play with the exhaust vtc timing with the ECU programming too.
hope that helps... and beyond this, my knowledge is quite limited already!
cheers,
richie

"350Z Head Work for Dummies" - by JERZ33
Shell out the dollars for NISMO heads, gaskets, springs, stems, Cams and, VTC gears.
Shell out some cash at your local engine builder.
Shell out more dough, and tow her to an expereiced tune shop.
Shell out more coin, and have a stand alone system installed and tuned.
Shell out some bling at the track and have some fun...
ps-Check out z1auto.com for the listed parts. Im not affiliated with them, but they got the stuff... so there you go.
Tune in next week for "350Z Turbo Choices for Dummies" by JERZ33
pps-Just had to have some fun... Im not calling anyone a dummy, and this is in no way how to handle your heads...
